    ESN changes & Memory Transfers

How do you handle ESN changes & memory transfers when customers bring in these requests? Do you charge to do it? Under what circumstances do you waive it?

It really varies by the area you are in and how close the next verizon store is, we charged for everything until they started putting corporate stores all of over the place. Now, if we tell a customer that we charge to do an esn change and they see corporate does it for free they are always going to think the better value for everything is in the corp store and never come back. With contacts transfers even corporate charges so you can get away with charging 10-$20 for it.

We look at a few things. If they're normally our customers we will waive it a lot of times. If they get out of hand with transfers or buy equipment elsewhere we generally charge $10 for each thing. If its contacts and pictures then $20. It's all included at no charge when you purchase a device from us.

Tell them to do it themselves.. It's a Android so they should learn what backup is.. Or push them to CORP.. Because sending them to CORP. will sideswipe them on LONG hold time ... and REPS hate that too.. They rather do a quota fill then doing a phone book transfer. So don't think as it as giving customers to CORP. think of it as clogging up their doors and giving the customer a more worse experience.

as stupid as that sounds its kind of true, I find when a customer goes to corporate and sits there for an hour he avoids it in every scenario other than them having something in stock that no one else has or a BOGO deal.

Funny I should read this.. I just took a phonebook swap and turned it into:
    Phonebook Transfer - $10
    Picture/Video Transfer - $15
    Case
    Mifi

I'll not be sending ANYONE to corp if I can help it.

Those are far and few.. When you do get one is cool and all, but the headaches and time stalls with the rest of the B.S specially when a "REAL" sale comes in and you're stuck with a Phone book transfer.. In my opinion you can keep the case and the transfers I will take a Gross add any day.

PS: The MiFI will be a charge back after they realize they can tether.

    Just keeping it Real.

Its true, there is no way the majority will do that. When we transferred for free we would get 15% of people who purchase an accessory since they are in the store but the bigger problem is these customers keep coming back for free services and begin to think you are a store that does anything they need for free because you are "verizon". At least half of those customers came back to ask for help with their phones and those same customers would not buy a phone from us!

    Keep it simple people:
They purchased from you, waive the fee.
They didnt? Charge them every fee possible.
Dont worry about future business, if this customer didnt give you their current and past business then most likely theyr not gonna give you any future business. Especially when you reward them for not doing buying from you.

What i like to do with a non-customer is tell them that every store charges a fee and i waive it for everyone that purchases from me. So instead of charging them $20 fee, they can buy a $20+ accessory and become my customer and i will waive any fee for the day. Its a win-win, they get an accessory they can use and i make some money.
If they dont wanna pay anything then dont worry, **** them, they werent worth the headache to begin with. Tell them since they figured out how to order the phone online, they can figure out how to do esn change online too and send them on their merry way.

Remember, youre running a business not a charity.

I would charge them. Why? Because it takes your employee's time. When you could be doing a sale... you were busy doing a contact transfer. Customers have a lot of tools such as bua, memory card contract trasfer in smart phones and gmail. People expect alot and at the same time save money.

Yup that's pretty much true at our store. I will also explain to them how to do it themselves if it is an activation. If they start throwing a fit I explain to them that is how it is at every store and why we do charge it for example the cellebrite machine subscription is expensive.

Yep... Just tell them if they wanna buy their very own $1000 UME-36 for their house, they'll never have to pay a $15 ever again.
Low price, Excellent Service, High Quality. Pick any two, but you never get all three.
