Over at Bell, trust me, we hate doing mobile number swaps...but we do them, as policy. But it sure creates billing confusion not only for the billing department, but for the users as well. I'm not sure about everyone else at Bell, but I seem to be the only person that understands them and how simple they really are...but even customer service reps manage to screw them up.
That could explain discouraging it or requiring a full explanation and consent from the customer about the risks and results, but if using lowest common denominator IQ or customer confusion as a reason would prevent them from performing many account changes that result in billing confusion. You are probably right, and I am sure this is the excuse they use internally.

^It's the same reason 99% of account changes are NOT pro-rated, as policy. Of course, if the rep and customer are comfortable, it'll be done, but generally changes are not pro-rated. Can you imagine proration between two accounts and two different phones numbers, BOTH happening mid-cycle.

That ugly bill is likely the reason it isn't done.

Things like this make me so happy that I won't be taking calls much anymore once I'm back from vacation..

Fido extreme text messaging may work if I decide to put my Fido chip in a tablet or ipad. But is it truly forwarding? Like the android phoneleash is awesome.

Sorry to bump an old thread...

Really? Is this absolutely confirmed, nobody can slip through the cracks and get this done anymore? Every single rep who could have/would have swapped numbers, has been explicitly instructed not to do so, and they are all aware of this? That seems highly surprising.

That said, whew...I'm just glad I slipped through the cracks and got my swap done. How unfortunate it is that carriers need/want so much gosh darn control over subs that they'll lock down anything unless there's specifically a CRTC mandate against it. Really yucky stuff. It'll sure be a blessed day when we can take our numbers somewhere like Google Voice and stop worrying about all this crap.

Well good for you then! Being said, I think we can all move on because they tighten the rules ever since...
