I've been trying to use the document viewer in the Brightsdie, but every PDF document I put on the SD card is too small to read even with the worthless zoom feature.
Also certain internet sites have small print you can't read with this phone even in the zoom mode.
Anyone experienced this?
This phone replaced my En V Touch which worked fine on pdf's & small internet print.
Thanks, Steve. I ordered the phone last week and have been playing with it over the weekend. I think that I've largely been able to figure out the answer to my questions.
Based on the earlier thread, I thought that BitPim could be used to add ringtones but I haven't been able to connect the Brightside to BitPim yet. I'm pretty sure it's time to give up on that great old tool since it doesn't seem to support most, if not any, of the new phones. I mention this because this thread is #1 on Google if you look for Samsung Brightside and BitPim.
Even though BitPim can't be used on this phone, as far as I can tell, thankfully you don't need it to load ringtones. You just need to connect your phone as a USB Storage device, copy your songs to the My Ringtones folder, and change the extensions to .qcp. Thanks to HeyDave23 and everyone else for figuring this out.
I haven't had the phone for very long but it appears to allow me to save my text messages to my external memory card. This may allow me to save my text messages, which was the main reason I was looking to BitPim, or at least extend their functional storage space.
Steve is absolutely right about how the reminder functionality works. I found it this weekend. It's at the bottom of Menu>Settings and Tools>Sound Settings>Alert Sounds below tones and Alert Vibrate. The options are off, once, every two minutes, and every 15 minutes.
Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, but it's the only Brightside thread I've seen. My daughter's having an issue where her message notification will show New Messages, but the messages never show in the convo list. It appears she has "missed" three messages, as that is the number showing for New Messages. Has anyone else seen anything similar? TIA
If I understand your issue correctly, I believe that she's getting most of her text messages but not all of them. I would think that these 3 missing text messages are actually listed in your daughter's text listings but are buried beneath the rest of her text messages. I don't know of any way to filter messages by if they've been viewed or not. It's a matter of just going through the messages and looking for the unopened message icon (i.e. the closed envelope).
It can be especially hard to locate missed messages if the texts are threaded together by user. If you know roughly when these missed messages occured the easiest way to locate these missed SMS may be to momentarily de-thread them and look for any unviewed message icons. That's done by going to your text messages, clicking more, selecting 8.Settings, and updating the inbox view from Contact to Time. Going back to your txt messages, you'll see that each one is displayed separately by the date it was sent.
There may be an easier way to do this but I don't know what it would be.

Update (7-25-2012):
Just editing the browser settings does not work...or perhaps I mis-configured something. Getting tired of it for now...HoTTProxy log shows that the U380 connects to the proxy, but it's not working...not sure what's going on. I kind of have a feeling that Verizon locked this phone tight...the HoTTProxy is working fine with the U750.

I didn't need to change the extensions to .qcp. As simple as drag and drop .mp3 and .midi to my_ringtone on the microSD after installing SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones_1_5_6_0 (says for SmartPhones but it's compatible). I first tried 20080428112052375_Samsung_USB_Driver_Installer directly from Samsung, but that did not work on this Win7 x64.

P.S. QPST 2.7.366's EFS Explorer doesn't work w/ this phone.
Someone has posted on the Verizon community that the Brightside has a similar problem playing MP3's as the previous model the Reality/U370 - the phone locks up with a message shown "Unsupported file".

Exactly the problem I had with the U370 in 2011 and the reason I returned it. I was considering the Brightside this summer, but its no step forward from the u370, or the Env Touch I currently use. Also there are other reported problems: t9 texting, memory issues, alarms not working, and pocket dialing/activation. I'll wait for the next model - but if the trend continues it will be lower quality and less features than the Brightside.
