Taking too long to port-in #, Why?

This is frustrating. I activated Chatr SIM on March 13, and requested to port-in my number from Mobilicity. It's been 4 Days, and it's not done yet. I called customer service everyday, and they all have same excuse, they have issue inquiry ticket to support team and will let me know soon.

Anyone else had this issue. I can't use Chatr SIM until I have my old number. My old line is still active, so I am fine for now. But I am getting charged from both carriers now. Will chatr credit me for days I couldn't use my phone( because not having my old number).

    Thanks.

My message disappeared so not sure if u got it but I worked in a porting department once and I don't see how they activated your service without your number first and then while your on the phone with new carrier asking why they activated you before your number was ported is insist they call your old carrier and tell them to put you on a 3 way call so you have assistance on the issue. Their are only a few issues that keep a phone from being ported. They need the name on the billing account, the number being ported, your social, and usually some other number that is associated with the phone? It's been years so I can't recall what that number is. If your new carrier will not do a 3 way call to assist in getting you ported, call old carrier u want a detailed list of exactly what they need to port the number. Don't accept an issue they are having as an explanation and let me know what happens? Matt

I don't know how it works with Chatr but it should be very similar. With Rogers, their parent company, you can activate on a new number temporarily, you forward your calls from Mobilicity to this temporary number. Then you can request the port-in. This way, you still have a functional Chatr phone while you are waiting for the port to clear.

Number porting is done by computer instantaneously. It is like sending a SMS. You hit send on one end, it gets received on the other end, assuming everything works well. I recently went to Virgin Mobile booth to port a number from Rogers. Within 10 seconds of pressing enter on their computer system, my phone number is switched. We even made a test call there. So it really takes only a few seconds if they want to do it.

When it takes a few days, it means something is wrong. The old carrier is not releasing their number. You should find out what is wrong so you can try to correct it. It may be mismatched name, outstanding overdue balance on old account, etc.

Just resolved issue. Thank you all for your replies.

The problem was on chatr side. For some reason, there was a glitch in their customer care's system. They requested to port my number in system, but for some reason, it was not received by porting department. two days later, they issue inquiry of status to check what happened. But it was not received by porting department.
Today I talked to porting department directly, and they said they have neither received port-in request nor inquiry of port-in status.

Finally, porting department took all the information and t was done in few hours.

No I didn't. I just wanted my number. But $25 could have been better.
