I am unable to receive normal texts from a lot of people. I've been having this problem for a few months now. I can send messages, but rarely receive them. I can see there is a message to download, but it won't download. The message are only 1-3kb. I've got it set to auto-delete old messages so it's not running out of space. It eventually give me generic network failure message. I've tried handcent and go sms pro and neither fix the problem.
I'm using a HTC Incredible 2 with page plus and did a hard reset about two month ago because my phone got wiggy.
Any suggestions?

I don't understand your explanation. When talking about text messages, how do you "see there is a message to download"? There is nothing to download (that would require data) with text messages. Also, how would you know what the size of a text message is? There IS something to download, and there IS a data size associated with MMS. Are you SURE you're talking about text messages? If you are actually talking about MMS, are you 100% sure that cellular data is turned on and active? MMS requires cellular data to download, and won't download over WiFi.
Also, I know you said you did a hard reset, but is the Inc2 100% stock (i.e. NOT rooted and IS using the unmodified stock ROM)?
Let us know about these questions.

I guess I'm not positive whether it's a text or a mms, but they arrive in my stock messages app that came with the phone. The phone has never been rooted.
It will look like:
From: John Doe
Subject: Downloading
File Size: 1kb
I will have a download or reject option. In the past I've never had a problem receiving these messages. After reading Boz1's post. I'm not assuming these must be mms. As I pretty much always run off of wifi as I'm with PagePlus. So I turned wifi off and turned 3g on and the messages arrived. I guess I'm a noob on understanding the difference from regular text and mms and why they are all going to my main messages folder. I thought there was a different app for mms.
Well, I'm glad that was the answer instead of a phone problem. That would have been a bummer! It sounds like the problem was that you were trying to receive MMS with cellular data turned off.
I rarely use MMS, but I think it is the same app for SMS and MMS.
What PPC plan are you using? Since MMS uses data, and there is also a $0.25/MMS surcharge on the Standard and PT plans, it could add up. Are people sending you pictures, or is there some other reason that the messages are coming in as MMS?
I'm not sure why they are being sent as mms on their end. They are just quick 2 line sentences with no media attached.
I'm using the following plan...
Talk n Text 1200 (1,200 Minutes / 3,000 SMS/MMS / 100 MB Data)
All my main contacts are using whatsapp with me since most of them are on verizon. So between my 3,000 sms/mms and whatsapp it shouldn't be a problem. It's just dumb that those messages are being sent as mms for no reason. It seems to be happening more and more frequently. I'm fairly certain last year I never had this problem.
The Whatsapp uses data to send messages. That's probably why the messages are showing up like they are. Are u using Whatsapp? If you are , then it's using your data to send and receive. You should use the standard text messaging with your phone to send and receive texts.
BTW, Google Voice is a good, free messaging option that doesn't behave like an MMS.
I've been using whatsapp for months now with no problem. Also have other friends with smart phones on pageplus using whatsapp with no problem. I don't use any data at all from my plan on whatsapp. I've always sent and received on wifi with whatsapp with no problem. I really doubt that whatsapp is messing up the stock texting app. My friend has his DINC1 rooted and uses whatsapp and handcent and has never had the mms download problem that I've had.
I'm mostly certain that if the people sending you those short messages would do so with the default stock messaging app straight to your PPC phone number, they would arrive as SMS (text message).
I'd guess that whatsapp is the problem.
You could ask the senders about that, or you could just forget it if you're doing okay staying within your 100MB/mo data allowance.
