I tried to do so about 3 or 4 months ago and gv did not allow ports from metropcs. Not sure if thats been changed.
To get around that, you can first port to t-mobile prepaid or pageplus, and then again port to gv.

well my reason for that was is if ur gonna keep that number mobile then switching it over to google voice is going to limit your service only to wifi. if you want to keep it as a home voip number then ok. other than that your better off using google voice on ur android phone and keeping both numbers. i have the first version of their app that allows you call either using google voice or your normal number. ive notice on the new updated version of google voice app you dont have those options.

    I did this.

Had to port over to prepaid ATT goPhone, then Ported from att to google voice.

Its great to always have the same number to give out to people and have it ring whatever your current phone is, or if you have more tha one, they all ring.

also when porting your number to google voice, you get the option to pay a small fee to keep the existing google voice number. You would then have two numbers you could give out that both go to your google voice account.
