We plan to travel in the Bahamas and would like to purchase a prepaid SIM card from BTC in the Bahamas to use in the iPhone. We called AT&T and they claimed they couldn't (or wouldn't) unlock the phone. Is there a way for me to do it? We're running iOS 5.1. Does a jailbreak accomplish this? If so, please provide a link to get me started. Thanks
Unlocked 64GB iPhone 6, unlocked 32GB iPhone 5 (AWS), unlocked 16GB iPhone 4
Unlimited airtime, Unlimited CAN/US long distance, Unlimited SMS to CAN/US wireless numbers
2500 Call Forwarding minutes to CAN/US numbers
Google Voice for visual voice mail with message transcription, conditional greetings, unlimited messages (vs 35 message cap), remote retrieval from any PC or phone, no auto-purge after 10 days and most importantly no $7-$8 charge.
AT&T will not unlock it. Get a cheap unlocked phone to use while there.
AT&T has never unlocked the iphone. Don't know why you thought they'd make an exception. Too bad you updated your bb.

Thanks for all the feedback. I assumed a jailbreak would allow one to unlock it. Guess we'll do as suggested and get a cheap phone while traveling outside the US. We do plan to go with Straight Talk on our iPhone 4 in a few months when our iPhone contract expires.
well you can try jailbreaking, it might work for you. you can find various softwares to jailbreak your phone easily and without any harm to your device.
I recall a response listing an eBay item used to unlock, but it seems to have disappeared. Can anyone make reference to that? Thanks
So if I understand you correctly I first need to wait for a successful jb for iOS 5.1 and then unlock software? Did I understand correctly?
Is there something about baseband version 04.12.01 that makes it impossible to jailbreak/unlock or is it just a matter of waiting for future versions?
