Foolwithnomoney: Hey, I haven't had much chance to play with the phone but it looks incredible from the specs. I finally got it to work, to a degree. We have 3 major carriers in Canada (Telus, Bell, Rogers). When I do a network search, it finds ROGERS and a network called "FastRoam". No one has ever heard of this, but from a google search, it appears that it uses the same MNC as Telus/Bell (302-880). So, I enter the APN for my carrier, insert the SIM and low and behold it connects to this FastRoam network, but shows that it is roaming. I'm able to make and receive calls/SMS; but have not tried data. The phone technically shouldn't be roaming, but it says that it is. I did more research online and other people that have had unlocked phone have also run into a similar issue, it shows they are roaming when they aren't. For some reason the phone thinks it is though. I think it will be fine to use it and ignore the roaming warnings, but I will make sure I'm not being charged with my carrier. Will let you know how I like the phone after some usage. It's really unfortunate we can't root it and remove all the DoCoMo bloatware and get custom ROMS to upgrade it to ICS.

Hmmm OK, my phone works with every major provider in Australia and never says it is roaming so that seems odd.

You can root the phone- http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...php?p=23785578

It says it's roaming because it isn't being used on its 'native' carrier. Don't worry, your carrier won't charge you any extra.

Great, thank you for the replies Fool & yamanote.

Have you rooted your phone yet? Do you hold hope that they'll find a way to remove all the DoCoMo bloat from the phone and to be able to install a custom rom of a newer Android version for our phone?

No my phone is still as it left the factory, I may try and root it in the near future.

I was a bit annoyed with the DoCoMo icons but I just gave them their own section.

I will be interested to see how you go with battery life on your phone, I tried Juice Defender but is not as good as simply turning data off with the standard data widget.

Fool: Started using my F-05D tonight; installed a bunch of apps, including the "Go Launcher EX" along with some of it's add-ons, and have customized the phone quite nicely. All of DoCoMo's bloatware and apps/programs that don't work outside of Japan are now hidden away and the phone appears just the way I like it. Now I will patiently await an update for ICS and hope that it's possible to do outside of Japan. Once I've had some time to use it I will let you know how the battery is.

I need to reset mine, for some reason it is corrupting memory cards, not sure if it is a bad app I have downloaded. I will back everything up next time......maybe.

Also have a look at different camera apps, the Fujitsu one is horrible, you can't turn off face detect which makes you miss loads of photos and it compresses the photos way too much. Photos are better shot at a lower res in a different camera app.

Thank you for the advice on the camera.. I did think it was quite poor. Can you recommend the best camera app? Also, this phone supports LTE 2000mhz band.. It seems that it's not the same as the LTE used in North America. Does your phone have LTE service on your network in Australia?

CameraPro seems quite good, if you use it set the preview time to 0seconds or it will be horribly slow and need verification to save every photo. I have tried a few camera apps and I like this best, only thing it doesn't allow you to do is preselect the ISO.

I am getting ready to throw my phone at a wall, it is still switching itself off but now every time it does it it corrupts the memory card. I am going to have to try and root the phone, it is useless at the moment as after it shuts itself off it starts up thinking the memory card is blank so if I then save something to it I can't recover all of the original files, not fun!

Oops had my phone rooted but tried a second time using a different file, bootloop, fixed bootloop and Japanese language but now need a SIM code. The phone rooted but I couldn't get busybox to install, I tried to manually install it but that didn't work which was why I tried the second root file in the first place.

I am hoping I haven't bricked the phone, I won't get to have a play with it until Wednesday

    Hi guys!

Just found a F-05D at a bargain price and I'm planning to buy it. Unfortunately it is locked to Docomo and I am in Europe so ... except sending it to Japan for unlock purposes is there another option ? (sim interposer maybe) ?!?

Not really sure, mine is SIM locked at the moment and I will send it back to Japan when ICS is released to get it updated and unlocked.

I would however look for a different phone, they are a nice toy but unless you are near a charger all day they are useless. There are lots of faster phones or ones with better battery life for really good prices now so I'd look elsewhere, but hey that's just me.

Yeahh I totally understand what you mean but I ve never owned a keitai and if the seller is willing to make me a very good offer I should send it to Japan for unlock.

If you really want an Android phone with great battery life you should consider Motorola Razr Maxx with its 3300 mAh battery. I had one and managed to get 4 days of battery life on it. Then switched to Samsung Galaxy S3 and got 12h )

I can't post my settings, I'm new on HF and I don't have privileges to post anything looking like a web link.
I just figure my f-10d which I have 2 apn for Optus thus 1-Internet and 2-mms if I want to send mms I switch the apn for mms Optus if I want to use Internet I switch to yesinternet its a pain in the *** sop I leave the apn for mms only and use my wifi for Internet

I'm going Windows for the next phone, I have just bought an Android MP3 player so I'll keep that for silly apps and things and just get a simple phone, really enjoying using my $59 Nokia at the moment. No virus checkers, 5day batt life and I can talk to people without wondering if my phone will power off whenever it wants.
