Question Droid 4 & Customer Service problems

I recently switched to Verizon and got a Droid 4. From the get go, I had multiple problems with the phone, the worst of which the touch screen frequently didn't respond at all to commands---which made the phone unusable when it happened. I was sick and couldn't go to the Verizon store for a while. (I went a few times but the wait would have been too long). So it's beyond the first 14 days.

The Droid 4 has no removable battery, so I can't do a reset that way. When I went again to the Verizon store, the rep did a hard reset. But the whole process took 1 hour and 40 minutes!!! She had to take all my contacts, etc. and put it onto a hard drive, do the hard reset, and then restore all my contacts, etc.

I listed all the problems that I'd been having with the phone, and insisted multiple times that she record them on my account. I saw her typing away as I asked her to do this, and she said she did.

The problems improved after that for a few days, and then one day I couldn't hang up on a call to VM---the phone wouldn't respond to touch screen commands again for about 3 minutes. So I went to another Verizon store, and they said to call CS (it turned out to be a new 3rd party store), and that they would give me a new phone, which is what I wanted all along. They recorded that I'd been there to trouble shoot it.

So I called CS, but the rep, plus the supervisor, said that there was NO record of my complaining about any problems or having any trouble shooting done at all!! I gave them the name of the rep and the store #, the date & time I went, and they called the store, but the rep didn't remember it (1 hour and 40 minutes worth!!). They only had record of my buying accessories. So now they insist that I do more trouble shooting first! I called the rep, and reminder her of details, she didn't recall it.

Now what? For a brand new, $200 phone to have so many problems from the get go is not acceptable, nor is their having no record of what was done at the expense of an awful lot of my time. Then there was the long phone calls, too. NOw they want me to spend yet more time on this phone.

Any recourse, besides spending more time "trouble shooting" the phone?? So far, I am NOT impressed at all. The service is way too expensive for this BS.

The weird thing is now most of the time the phone works ok. But it's not right that this should be happening at all, much less right from the beginning a lot, and then so soon after a hard reset.

If you had problems from the "get go" why didn't you exchange the phone for another model within the exchange period

Explain your situation to the VZW Warranty Center ( 866-406-5154). If nothing else helps, then contact VZW Executive Services; they will take care of your issue.

I didn't return it within 2 weeks because I was sick, really sick, not just a cold or flu. I'll try the 2 fixes above. They are insisting that I do further trouble shooting though, which infuriates me. I've spent way too long already on it.

I agree with Andy. I am sure if you go into detail that you were extremely sick they should help you. Be persistent

Has anyone else been having these problems with the Droid 4? It was really, really bad before I had the hard reset done in the store (which took forever, because it wiped everything off the phone, and she had to restore the data). Now it's occasional. But still, that shouldn't be from the get go.

I am STILL having the exact same problem: the phone really frequently does NOT respond to touch screen commands repeatedly---so the phone is useless while it is happening. I still have gotten nowhere with this. I demanded a replacement phone a long time ago, but the refurbished phone they sent had exactly the same problem. I tried and tried to get them to send a new phone, but no dice.

I'm tired of spending so much time on this to no avail. Verizon and the phone are too expensive for this.

Do you mean the touch screen doesn't respond at all to presses, or that it doesn't respond the first time you touch, but does if you touch it again? Mine sometimes doesn't respond to touches the first time, but does when I touch again.

No, it doesn't respond to touch at all frequently---I keep trying and trying, and nothing! Other times, it is ok, but this is really frequent, with both my first phone, and the replacement phone the same.

I need to do something about it, but I'm not sure what to ask for, as I NEED a keyboard, but I need a functioning phone! And I've already spent a ridiculous amount of time on dealing with it.

Someone in this thread suggested that it may be the protector skin that I am using, that I bought at the Verizon store no less. But I am afraid to go without a protector skin, as I don't have insurance on the phone, and I tend to be a bit hard on phones. I know that if Verizon sees scratches, etc., they will blame the problems on damage that I created.

So now what, besides complaining about it again? I have had bad luck with Verizon on this, as you can see if you read my first post.

Have you tried a stylus pen to see how that reacts in comparison to your finger? Is it possible you are using your fingernail or tip? Same exact problem with two phones?

I've seen this same problem posted before -- not on the D4. I have it on my DX, as well.

The physical Home key may clear it. One press usually clears the screen freeze without changing the current page.

If that works, then I'm pretty sure it's a bad app or a malware issue.

What apps are you installing? Uninstalling? My thought is that you might have a misbehaving app that grabbing 100% of the CPU, and of course while that's happening, the phone appears hung up.

If its that, and you did the same on the first D4 and on the replacement D4, replacing it a third time will not help.

Why would the Home key free it up, then?

I don't see where Blue Pearl ever claimed it did.
