Can I go on the Internet on a Japan phone in America?

I was just wondering if I can use the Internet of a Japanese phone in America. Some people say you can some people say you can't. Its really confusing please help!!

I'd assume that you mean 3G (because WiFi you can use it in any place that has it). It depends on the 3G band frequencies that your phone has, and the ones that your carrier provides in America. If both have a 3G band in common, then you can. So you should search on the internet which 3G bands your phone has (it's more likely that it's UMTS 2100), and then you should search if your carrier has that particular band. If your phone is software unlocked, it's as simple as that. But if you use a phone which uses also a hypersim, then if you use the 3G, you can't recieve calls.

Oh o.o ... I'm using a phone that requires a hypersim card to be unlocked... I'm also using tmobile as my carrier... Whenever I switch to 3G the signal just disappears , when I switch to gsm/GPRS the signal recovers but whenever I try to go on the internet the phone immediately cancels the action and returns to the home screen... I'm not sure what this mean o.o

If you have a docomo then unless you have wi-fi in the phone then you can not go on the internet. Even with wi-fi, it is mostly useful for web browsing.

I got a docomo phone that was released in the summer of 2011 so it was unlocked by docomo itself but even though it is unlocked (no hypersim required) you cannot use 3G internet.

I know it feels frustrating with all those restrictions xD I would really love to be able to use different apps and stuff but it can't be helped. Anyways, the look of the phone and camera (in my case) kind of makes me forget about those restrictions.

Also it depends on the phone. If its an Unlocked Android Smartphone from Docomo, then you can use the 3G. If its a Flip phone / clam shell phone and its not Android, then the 3G won't work (even if its unlocked)
