Blackberry 9300 Curve keeps turning off

Is anyone else experiencing a similar problem?

My Blackberry Curve 9300 on Mobilicity keeps turning off. Been happening with increasing frequency (now up to 6-7 times) a day.

Basically turns off randomly and accessing data especially seems to trigger it.

Can do a battery pull to power it up for a little while, but will not stay on. Only way that it stays on longer than a few minutes is to power up while plugged in. Really don't think it's a battery issue, as the battery is fine after the random shut and down and reboot.

Anyone have any ideas or is my phone just done?

    My gf's 9300 doesn't have this problem.

You should try wiping the device so that it is back to factory settings (i.e. no third party apps) and see if that helps as there could be an offending app. If that doesn't work, you can try upgrading the OS and seeing if that will solve the problem.

If neither of the above work, then it may be faulty hardware.

Take a close look around where the battery "sits" into the back of the phone. Make sure the contacts on the battery are nice and clean they should be gold colored showing no corrosion. Also the battery when sitting in the back of the phone should be snug with no play or movement.

If everything here checks out, and your within the 365 day warranty might as well send it in for service.

Check the battery for broken cells... Make sure it is flat and not bloated.

Hmm I think this what might be happening. The bloating seems only slight, but the back cover doesn't fit on properly, which coincided with this.

quickinferno - did replacing the battery solve your problems?

Thanks MOBILICITYSTC, quickinferno and everyone for their suggestions - let you know how it goes.

Which build of OS6 are you using? I've experienced random turn offs on my 9700 and 9900. In both cases upgrading the software fixed the problem.

    I'm using 6.0 Bundle 2858 (v6.0.0.650, Platform 6.60.236). I last upgraded OS a few months ago.

Do you recommend upgrade if even available?

If the battery is bloated, its pretty safe to say that's causing the problem. I've seen many phones with the same symptoms as yours because of a defective battery, including many curves.

The phone is turning on and off because the contacts are not aligned properly with the battery because it now pivots.

An easy way to test this is to not touch the phone for a day.. If it does not turn on and off, you know the phone is turning on and off because the battery is now loose.

The easiest solution is to order a battery off ebay for $5 or at any local cellphone store.
