Jim should have taken advice from John Roth: quit while you're ahead.

Jim is gone, and apparently so are all the consumer products. They're going to concentrate on business/enterprise clients.

What does that mean exactly? Is it goodbye to the Curves plus BIS to regular consumers and so on?

I hope that RIM can get back on track and become a powerhouse in the smartphone business again. I hate seeing this happen to them.

They've since clarified that they are refocusing enterprise, not reducing or quitting consumer products. I'm still hoping BBX gets them back in the game.

What, exactly, do the PlayBook and TouchPad have to do with the "iPone"? Shouldn't you be camping out in front of a store with the other sheep?
This confusion can easily be avoided if you pronounce the word intended aloud. If it has a voiced Z sound, then it’s “lose.” If it has a hissy S sound, then it’s “loose.” Here are examples of correct usage: “He tends to lose his keys.” “She lets her dog run loose.”

    Loose
not rigidly fastened or securely attached

    Lose
to miss from one's possession or from a customary or supposed place

Also, just because a word has an "s" at the end, doesn't mean it needs an apostrophe.

It's not the hardware that is driving people away so much as the software on Blackberries... I used to have several BBs and the hardware felt very well made! I still miss the hardware keyboard since I now have an iPhone. The software needs to be updated... it's imperative! It's dated, and boring! And most 3rd party apps need to be updated to look more streamlined and professional. I remember I could do most of what my iPhone can do, on my BBs... but the interfaces and the software didn't look anywhere near as nice! Mind you iPhones have their own issues... like I wouldn't own one if I couldn't jailbreak!

I agree... the blackberry hardware has always been solid and professional. It's the horrible OS that drove people away.

I said it last year; They need to adopt Android as their OS. The sooner the better. It's the only way anyone will continue to want a blackberry.

If they continue with QNX, they will fail. I predicted their failure over a year ago... and unless they fully adopt Android, you can say GOODBYE to RIM and blackberry.

Any arguments against switching to Android are frivolous. When your company is in a nose dive toward oblivion you don't start redesigning things. You quickly ADOPT those things that you already know will work. A blackberry with Android OS will sell. Nobody wants a blackberry with its current OS or QNX. Simple as that.

But what about form factor? No way I'd use a Bold with Android considering the screen is way too small for Android to be comfortably used. And if your talking about a Storm with Android, you might as well buy the hundreds of Android phones that are in the same form factor instead of waiting for RIM to do the same job.

While AahH's taunt was totally uncalled for, this response is pretty much endemic of RIM's problem.

The fact remains that those "sheep" wouldn't be camping out in front of stores if the product they ere trying to buy didn't give them a reason to do so.

That said, I'm not sure that re-plowing into enterprise is going to solve RIM's issues. If a person can buy a consumer device that can do the job the way they want it done, they'll shun the enterprise device in favor of it.

The sooner RIM gets BBX up to speed, the better. That means quit plowing money into marketing gimmicks that try to cast other devices as "toys." Sorry; the market has already used those "toys" and realized that for a "toy," it actually does what people need quite well. Instead, plow that money into BBX10 development to get it shipped and in products.

    It's too late for BBX10.

A proper implementation of QNX three years ago might have helped quite a bit. Not now.

Honestly. Imagine two blackberry's sitting on a display in a store. One has BBX10 the other Android. Which do you think the consumer will buy? Nobody in this entire #$%& world even cares at all about blackberry's OS. They will NEVER care. They DO however like ANDROID, and combining that with the blackberry name at least gives the consumer REASON to be interested.

BBX10 = total death for blackberry. It has even less of a chance than windows phone OS.

Except for the little detail that Android is a data pig. All your personal info gets transmitted. BB does not have this problem. My NS uses 10x the amount of data my BB does. And, Android is not very secure as an OS.

Great idea, go from one terrible OS to another. Android is more dev friendly, that's it.
The word 'Pentaband' means '5 Bands', from the Greek word 'pente' meaning '5'. For a phone to be pentaband it has to support 5 bands. If the phone has AWS support, it doesn't automatically mean that it is pentaband.
