Can I use an AT&T GoPhone with my postpaid plan?

I am thinking of getting an AT&T GoPhone as a backup phone for my regular postpaid plan. Can I just put my sim into the GoPhone and start using it or does it need to be activated or something?

Yes, all you have to do is move the sim.

Yes. I've done it, and we are planning to replace two aging GSM phones with $40 3G phones that way soon and save the upgrades for smartphones.
I usually support government regulation, but It is unfortunate that the government over-regulated and killed the AT&T/ T-Mobile Merger
The best explanation of the pricing nutiness in the industry.
Why Sprint and T-Mo will always suck.
The only way to end the pricing insanity is to eliminate contracts and subsidies.
I want Wifi calling on AT&T.
If you text while driving, you're an idiot. End of story.

ATT has/had a really decent prepay phone on it's site. The offer was in FatWallet a few days ago.
Today a group of leading venture capitalists published an open letter to the FCC calling on them to prevent what they say would be the end of net neutrality and a crippling blow to young startups.
No Google, say it ain't (or wouldn't of been ) so! ATT and Verizon would have killed their own cash cow.

Make sure you get a 3G one. I think most of the GSM ones are gone now.

I bought three of those $3 phones at best buy. Rumor is they are GSM, plus they're still in Walmart and other stores despite the clear out at BB.
How many people own a working bag phone AND a Telular box?

It wasn't the 3 buck special the one in FatWallet recently was 3G, but I lost interest because it wasn't click worthy.

GSM, 3G? Aren't they all both GSM and 3G?

No, older GSM phones don't work so well because 3G voice replaced the codec used. 3G voice is now much better.

But all phones are GSM. So as long as it is a newer phone it will most likely have 3G, right?

Yes, but check before you buy. And make sure it has the ATT bands if you're going to use it on ATT.
