No, does 4G specifically refer to LTE only?

CDMA EVRC-NW is also HD voice over 1x advanced and offering the same capacity as EVRC

Yes I have been a Vrizon cusotmer for 15 years when they were bell atlantic mobile to just the past two week. they made me mad and I switched to AT&T now to only find out that in western nc I have edge everywhere and the siganl is not reliable. YOu cannot drive a mile without dropping a call and with VZW I could drive 50 miles through the mountains without dropping a signal and I might also ad those 50 miles of road are covered by LTE. Yet at&t still is 2g? What is the deal? Why is there network so spotty? I hate to say but I am very disappointed with it and still in my 30 days so I will be going back to Big red! Damn the bad luck

One thing I'm pretty sure AT&T uses the 1900 band in all of NC so I'm sure that hurts them especially in the mountains. With that said I was in western NC last year and didn't have a problem I stayed in Hendersonville and went to chimney rock, lake lure and rode through some country roads towards black mountain and didn't have many complaints there were a few spotty areas but overall it was good and mostly 3G. Ive also had good luck around Boone and Grandfather mountain where Verizon is just 1x. I think its just location and I don't blame you if my service was poor I'd switch too but where I live I don't have choices unfortunately. On a side note I'll be heading back up there at the end of July.

I love the Verizon reliability in nc as of lately.

The FCC screwed up the Alltel transaction not forcing VZW to divest the A and B cellular bands they have over most of NC. Sure they made a few rural Alltel markets divest to ATNI, but AT&T wasn't allowed to buy those either because AT&T had 58 MHz of PCS in NC.

That was a major fail of the W Bush FCC (not forcing CLR divestures over everywhere VZW already had CLR). Then by the time the FCC got to the Dems they exacerbated the error by not letting AT&T take all the divested markets that Verizon was forced to shed off Alltel. It was just dumb all around.

In Galesburg, il, I've always had edge. Solidly. But in the last week I've had almost exclusively gprs. Is that a sign of anything to come?

Sounds like you might be roaming on somebody. Does AT&T even support GPRS anymore?

I used to live in that area and still go back. How do you even get a cellphone for AT&T? There are no AT&T Wireless stores in Galesburg. You have to go to Peoria or Moline to find a store. Everything there is Verizon, US Cellular Sprint and T-Mobile. If you go out by the mall, there is 3G with AT&T, maybe the Country Club or by the Interstate up north part of the city. If you are talking downtown on Seminary St., you will find mostly EDGE, still. Head north.

I guess I'm not sure if it's gprs. My Atrix two just says G. In Knox country i have never seem 3G, only edge, and never before G. It's odd, taking US 150 from the quad cities i have "4G" (3G) all the way up to the Knox county line. Then it stops abruptly. I'll try up by the mall but my experience says 20 minutes south towards Peoria and 25 ish minutes towards qc it's when 3g starts. So i guess could the G be a sign 3G might finally be coming?

I was trying to remember where else in Galesburg... St. May's Medical Center. We had AT&T 3G out by the hospital for sure. I guess, being a hospital, that's good. You have to remember that the mall is pretty much on the northern part of the city, but we had it. It dropped out going into Perkins, but I remember seeing 3G at Target.

I just talked with my in-laws who still live there. They said that Walmart sells AT&T Go Phones and such, but it's not a real full featured AT&T Store, it's just the usual electronics center counter. Oh well, we don't go to Walmart much there.

Thanks for the heads up. According to the coverage map, there is 3g in bits of Warren county. None reported in Knox county. But I'll let you know if it actually shows up. I'd love if it did. The eaten county stuff is new. And my service had become terrible. So here's hoping Galesburg becomes full 3G soon. By thewway, i grew up near Chicago, so i have an Atrix 2.

Does anyone know if AT&T even has the spectrum to bring 3G to Galesburg? I assume they do, they seem to have a lot everywhere.

Re: Sick of only having EDGE

Would consistently above expectations data usage by subscribers in an edge only area make them consider upgrading the area? Most people i know here with att use wifi for obvious reasons. I now try to download app updates and the like with the edge connection (my plan can take it). Do 3g and newer networks handle subscriber data use more effectively? I guess what I'm saying is, would they notice if the two our three towers suddenly bogged down, would they do anything or care?
