This one, for example... would this work with the ST AT&T sim?

It would work, but there are some things you should think about. First, Chinese phones will not have access to Google features like the Market/Play Store. Second, they're not much cheaper than phones from the brand name companies that have much better specs. If you're willing to buy used, you can get a phone that will run circles around that thing AND give you access to Google stuff for less money.

The other thing that should be noted is that many of these Chinese phones do not get 3G....you might only have Edge or 2G.

I've had experience with one. It had all the Google apps (market, YouTube, etc). The draw back was the battery. The phone came with 2 batteries, and believe me...I needed both to get through the day. It was a decent phone, specs and performance comparable to an LG optimus...couldn't play games with high end graphics, but overall it was a good phone less the battery.

If you go the Chinese route, look at WWW.mycellbay.com I am not affiliated, just sharing that they are located in the US so shipping takes 5 days instead of 3 weeks.

This is pretty much what I was saying. I haven't done extensive research on these phones, but the ones I have seen do not support our 3G frequencies.
