at&t has never cared about the prepaid customer.look how long they were charging 25 cents a minute when every other carrier was charging 10 cent.i been telling people to stop chasing that iPhone without a contract. i must say im happy with my $25 unlimited data plan VM.get away from at&t prepaid or at&t mvno people before data is the reason u lose your number. at&t doesn't care about prepaid and they never did.i know my post is pointless but if i can open one persons eyes then i made my point

They may not care about me as a prepaid phone customer, but I bet they care about me as a uverse customer. I like uverse, and would never have considered switching, but now I have an itchy trigger finger. Dramatically altering an already existing pricing structure is dangerous territory with respect to customer loyalty.

Customer loyalty is simple. Be loyal to your customers and they will be loyal to you.

They probably don't want to shoot themself in the foot like t-mobile as well. I mean Tmobile prepaid plans are BETTER than there postpaid plans. Unless your a grandfathered postpaid users there's no point in using Tmobile on the contract side when you can get almost the same coverage as on prepaid. Just like Verizon prepaid having unlimited data what's the point in going contract and get tier data when you can go off contract and get unlimited and use any smartphone except 4g?

Only thing I tell those who are effected and thinking of switching be very careful and do a lot of research. The saving with st, rp, etc. are great and worth the trouble but whenever you have a problem their CS is jumping out a plane with no parachute! Never had a problem with rp but I guarantee if I do I'm going to hate it! Online chats and Facebook are better ways to get fast answers on any problems! If your not wanting to do that them just stick where you are

That's true, but for the last few days AT&T customer service has been useless. They answer the calls quickly, but they are not trained well enough to know what is going on with this data thing. I called several times, and received conflicting info......one said, nothing is going to change on my data plan, another said that everything about data being gone for me is true. Their CSR's are not reliable. Some MVNO customer service may be like "jumping out a plane with no parachute", but currently AT&T customer service is like getting pushed out of a plane with no parachute.

They offered to credit back $25 to that balance for one 500mb data package. I accepted this although its really no improvement since I'll never use up my balance on just minutes. My data balance didn't change but no help either since I won't come close to using the other 500mb that would still be in my account by the end of this month. They seem to want smart phone users off of their prepaid and looks like they'll succeed.
This is a poor show by ATT.
While they have every right to stop selling data packages to pay as you go users, it's almost certainly illegal to not allow existing users to use up the balance on their account without offering those users a full refund.

This is ripe for someone to take AT&T to small claims court (as was done successfully in the case of throttling). The damages are the balance in the account that can no longer be used for data. Obviously such a lawsuit only makes sense if you have a balance that is greater than the cost of going to small claims court. In California, the cost is $30 for claims up to $1500.

Far too many users were signing up for those plans. 80% of smart phone users are using less than 500MB per month of data, and voice usage is way down across the board. $25 for 500MB with no monthly voice/text plan was simply too good of a deal to allow to continue. No doubt AT&T felt that offering these data packages was hurting their ARPU. Of course the net result will be that these users will leave AT&T completely, not sign up for a monthly plan, so revenue will decrease, but ARPU will increase.

With a $25 monthly plan for 250 minutes, and $25/500MB , you're better off at Pageplus at $55 for unlimited voice/texts and 1GB of data. For $30 at Pageplus you get 1200 voice minutes, 3000 texts, and 100MB of data. Far better coverage than AT&T as well. But no access to non-free AT&T Wi-Fi hot spots.

Nothing AT&T does should surprise anyone anymore.

    <snip>

I suspect those with the unlimited plan will also be affected. We'll have to wait until at&t decides to update their GoPhone webpage
If someone purchases a new handset today, based on what's on the GoPhone web page, and purchases a data package but no monthly plan, what happens tomorrow when the new terms go into effect? They've bought a handset but they likely won't continue with AT&T after one month.

I recently bought an AT&T ZTE Avail Android phone at Fry's ($99.99). I only bought it because I wanted an unlocked quad band smart phone to use with foreign SIM cards (the Avail is very easy to unlock). Had I bought it to actually use on AT&T, I would have been really upset. Fry's has a 15 day return policy on phones, with a 15% restocking fee if the package was opened.

What would have been fair is to have grandfathered in existing users for a period of time, say 6 months, so existing users could have used up their balances prior to leaving AT&T.

You should link to the individual posts. The pages will be different to everyone depending on how they setup their post/page. That thread only goes to page 19 for me.

The individual posts are numbered. Firefox does not give you the option of getting individual message properties. I'll have to edit my message with the links from Internet Explorer.

That post number at the top right of each post is actually a link that you can copy and paste

It only takes you to the page. Both Firefox and Internet Explorer are set to show fifteen messages per page on my computer. That must be the default because I never explicitly set those numbers. You must be set for thirty messages per page.

I'm turning on pandora 24-7 and am going to file a complaint with my BBB and States Atty Gen. Easy to do online and I think those of us who have just recently signed up for a year of service have good case.
The BBB is a joke. What you should do is to file in small claims court if you recently added sufficient money to the account to make the filing fee worthwhile. It's not just that you have a good case, it's the incredible hassle for AT&T to fight thousands of small claims court cases, as is what's happening with the throttling of unlimited users.

Apparently AT&T is paying the small claims awards, and not appealing, see http://news.yahoo.com/t-scotches-app...213224134.html.
