Outgoing audio issue... intermittent dead air

Started noticing this issue since getting my Galaxy Nexus... I'll be on a phone call and all of the sudden the other person can't hear me; All they hear is dead air. I can hear them saying "hello, hello, hello" before they finally hang up.

I will say that the only time I seem to experience this issue is when on long calls to the USA... then again, those calls tend to be longer than any other calls for me, so I'm not sure if it's solely related to US calls or what. In fact, I was just having a conversation with someone in the us, and had to re-place the call 3 or 4 times during the course of the conversation because they suddenly couldn't hear me. However, yesterday I was on the phone with the same person for nearly 2 hours without issue.

Not sure if it's necessarily directly related to the handset, or just a Wind issue, but it's happened on both ICS 4.0.2 and 4.0.4 fwiw.

Anyone else experience something like this?

Welcome to the conversation! "Hello? Hello? HELLO?!?!?!" *hangs up*

What a way to start a conversation. Luckily the plans have unlimited minutes, or else it's just a horrible way to kill your minutes.

What phone were you using before? It happened on my Panache with WIND before. Someone had a similar issue with the Nexus One and apparently flashing something to it fixed the issue. Maybe someone can point you in the right direction.

The infamous random silence on Wind. I had it happen every once in a while on my HD2 but every since I got my Galaxy Nexus I haven't had any call issues believe it or not. Ever since the phone swap I also haven't had Missed Call texts while with with bars.

Can't comment actually if it was Wind that fixed it or the phone.

Did a little more poking around, and there is a thread on google support forums detailing this exact issue with the Galaxy Nexus. It had a ton of replies, so I think the issue might spread past the Wind network... although from the sound of it, it could be a Wind issue as well.

Oh well, HMP means I'm not worried about airtime, but it is fairly annoying when it happens.

I've honestly never had that happen to me in almost two years with WIND.

Judging from posts in this forum, I think WIND isn't as good as Mobilicity in Vancouver.

Except when you consider Wind has much better coverage as well as faster and more consistent data rates. Also, Wind doesn't port block or aggressively traffic shape, making the data side of their network much more useful to me than mobilicity ever was.

I ditched Mobi for Wind and haven't regretted it for a moment.

Yes, but I'd like to know what Mobilicity does that have people saying "the voice quality is better".

That's a good question. Personally, I have no complaints about voice quality on either carrier.

I'm getting the feeling voice quality on Mobilicity might be going down. When I first got my Lumia 710 it seemed to be a step up from the Curve 9300 in terms of sound quality, but now it's dropped so I have to repeat myself. I'm wondering if Mobi is compressing voice calls more now that they have more subscribers.
The word 'Pentaband' means '5 Bands', from the Greek word 'pente' meaning '5'. For a phone to be pentaband it has to support 5 bands. If the phone has AWS support, it doesn't automatically mean that it is pentaband. The reason Wind and Mobilicity users like pentaband phones is because the reverse is true. We're not the only ones who like pentaband phones though, so please stop referring to phones that work on Wind and Mobilicity as pentaband. It causes unnecessary cofusion.

I don't want to jinx anything but I haven't had the intermittent dead noise issue in at least a month. I hope it means it's fixed for good.

Haven't noticed too much of a dip in call quality, but I do notice that I get more dropped calls than before. Usually calls just drop randomly, but once another call is established, it'll hold on pretty good the second time around, so not too big of an issue for me.

Haha, hopefully that is the case, because WIND is still a better alternative for unsatisfied Mobi users than the incumbents.

In the two monthes I have Bern with Mobilicity I haven't noticed a major change in voice quailty. Much better then when I was on Rogers.
