    Nokia lumina 900? Discussion

I got mine today, and a lot of the information on the blogs and Nokia's facebook is wrong. Maybe because they were using an older version of Tango and didn't know the ones they are currently shipping are updated.

It does come with maps, but how do I get Drive? One article said it was in the marketplace, but I can't find it there. Another said it was already on the phone, but only maps is in the apps section. Any hints?

Btw, The 900 does indeed parse addresses to maps, phone numbers to the dialer, and URLs to the browser from emails. Why people are reporting that the browser is slow is beyond me, it is faster than my Android phone and my Lte Moto XBOARD tablet. Although ATT's Lte is half the speed as Verizon both in Baltimore and DC.

Looks like version 2.0 of Drive was promised for last week, and is now available for the 710 and 800 only in the Windows Phone Marketplace. Since my Lumia 900 is shipping on Monday, I can't confirm if its there or not for me.

Well, that explains a lot, wish I knew! I spent an hour looking. Things are complicated for me, this is my first Windows Phone, and it is different than Android.

Unfortunately, we can’t provide you with a marketplace download link because the app is exclusive to Nokia’s Lumia handsets which means that only those of you with the Lumia 800 and Lumia 710 will be able to find it.

Nokia Drive is located in the Nokia section of the Market. While mine was visible from the start, others are reporting that it takes a few hours for the section to show up on their phones.

Sent from my Lumia 900 using Board Express

Yea, I found out that it will appear soon, but it wasn't there the other day. 1.8GB...Oh-No, but it's downloading now.

Probably should wait, but can it get an address from a contact list or will I be able to click an address from an email and be able to have it entered in Drive, like you can in maps?

Btw, Maps (version) looks new too.
The price of a smartphone is $650. That's not gonna persist.
    Dennis Woodside, CEO of Motorola
Rolfe Winkler of the Wall Street Journal also thinks that these fighting words from Woodside should have “executives at Samsung shaking in their boots.” He also thinks that “folks at Apple should also be sweating.”

Others have reported that addresses contained in emails and the contact list are clickable. Hopefully Drive will be able to pick that up. Its probably a lot like Android, where the OS asks you where to send the click by showing you a list of available apps, and set a default. That's also typical behavior in PC Windows as well.

They do in maps, and I'm half way through downloading map data in Drive. Drive is now/today in the market on the phone under Nokia stuff.

But on Nokia's Facebook page a poster said no, perhaps in Apollo because Drive is not baked into this version. I will see in a few though.

Here is something interesting about the screen:

    http://news.cnet.com/8301-1035_3-574...-so-darn-good/

"Soneira discovered that Nokia's Lumia 900 screen manages to skirt the dilemma with that ClearBlack display technology, with "circularly polarized" glare-suppressing optics.
The Lumia 900 has "the lowest screen reflectance of any mobile device I have ever measured," Soneira told CNET. "4.4 percent, which is almost 40 percent lower than the iPhone 4.""

and another good article on switching from another platform.. vendor lock-in at its best

Well, Drive sucks big time! The only way to enter addresses is by typing the entire address, useless guessing...not Google like at all. This app is stuck in the 90s!

    Can't use your contacts!
When trying to paste in messes that up too!

    Big Suck!

So I gather the phone is work-related as you have described a few things before. What was your point in buying this?

Two major things I do daily. One is navigate and the other is enter information in my online site. Won't parse address to Drive, but will to maps, but maps wont send it to Drive! And IE on the 900 can't remember logins, like every other smartphone on the planet!

    This is sad!

I was duped into thinking Nokia and Microsoft were competent! Google and Apple get this.

My Lumia 800 remembers all the forum logins?

Myself at least been loving WP7, sold my ip4 couple of weeks ago. Not the type of guy that needs navigation much but the couple of times i have used drive i have been impressed. Especially like the UI for on car navigation. Yet to test the offline navigation abroad, but will be in the next month.

That said Android is great for Navigation, it's only problem being poorer maps in Europe compared to Nokia Maps (Navteq). iOS always felt a bit like inferior version of Google Maps on Android.

Don't get me wrong, the 900 is a greatly designed phone. Quality feel, great screen, and a whole lot more, so I loved it! But having a courier company I needed clickable emails for addresses. Anyone who drives for a living would appreciate that if they knew it was possible!

Drive is not baked into Tango, that's why I think it doesn't work. Further, I believe that in the Appolo update it will, but ATT is less than reputable. They will orphan the 900 after a few months to sell the 1000 (whatever) by not pushing that update.

Shame, but history shows they are dirtbags.

The big question for me on this device is will it sync with Microsoft Office on my PC. I need/want to sync my contacts with both devices.

I also need to sync the calendar to Google. I am assuming that works, but cannot find a consistent answer about the sync with MS Office. Any help or comment is appreciated.
