I just lost my Iphone4 last week, it was a factory unlocked Iphone4. I just renewed the Applecare 2 weeks ago, and unfortunately somehow I feel that I must have dropped it or it may have been stolen.
I did speak to Bell to suspend my line. Apparently they told me that they will put the Iphone in their Negative list so no one can use it since its factory unlocked. I don't know how this works, but I specifically asked them what if they changed the Sim, and used it on a different carrier, Bell told me that this is across the board so once they negative list the phone, all carriers become aware and the person can't use it. This was the first I have ever heard of this.
I had alot of Info on it but never had the Find My Iphone App enabled. So what can I do. Is there anything I can do.
I would like some of u to share some advice with me of what I can do. I did not suspend the phone right away because if there were calls made, Bell wud be able to trace them, but there have been no calls made since.
I wud appreciate any advice I can get on what I can do to prevent the least damage to my Info, as well if there is anything I can do so that I can get my Iphone back.
I wonder if Bell is talking about the IMEI Database (formerly the EIR registry) which is a cross carrier database of black listed IMEI's. Any member carrier can submit IMEI's to this list and all other member carriers will block access to that device. Rogers is the only Canadian carrier that I know was a member, but it is possible that Bell and Telus have joined as well. With Rogers, they will refuse to add customer phones to the database and only add phones that are stolen from their stores and warehouses in order to deter theft from them but not from customers. If Bell is willing to add your IMEI to that database, then kudos to them.
There really is not much else you can do. Maybe file a police report so there is a record in the off chance it is turned in.

It does really suck, honestly I feel a pinch in my wallet just thinking about it.
Yeah Kudos to Bell. They did ask me for the IMEI..............so I'm hoping ur hunch is correct. Since the Iphone has all my INfo, I hope whoever has taken it or finds it has courtesy to figure out how he/she can get hold of me and return the phone to me.
Unfortunately there isn't much you can do after the fact. Hopefully you had a passcode set on your device and also had data protection enabled. But if not, it's too late now. Also, Find My iPhone is great for tracking your phone and possibly wiping it remotely if you do lose it, but of course it needs to be set up before you incur the loss, so again, not much you can do after the fact. For your next phone I strongly suggest you do those things before you lose it.
I am a little confused. My Verizon phone was able to roam on GSM because they used TDMA. Tell it was shutdown. The phone recognizes it as Analog. If PCS has TDMA, It could be technically be used on GSM.

Yeah unfortunately I didn't even have a passcode set for my Iphone. So really I'm the only one to blame. Sometimes even being really careful about ur devices isn't enough. I just hope whoever finds it has the goodness of the heart to return it.
Just wondering, if it is found unless it is stolen......the person shud still be able to figure out how to return it to me since all my contacts are still there, or he cud even email to me and notify me. I know its a long shot but it is possible.
Unfortunately, most people who "find" an iphone hardly ever return it to the owner or even hand it in to the police. It's really disgusting, because these jerks assume they're entitled to keep or sell the phone. Since it's blacklisted, you at least thwarted the jerk's plans to make a few hundred off your phone.
Since it's not likely you'll get the phone back, it's time to start figuring out what you're going to do for a replacement. I suggest you get a cheap phone, if you're holding out some irrational hope.
"I wish for a world of peace, harmony, and naked men."
Did you have renter's insurance? If it was stolen out of your car or backpack or something, they may cover it. Or if you bought it on an AMEX, they might cover the cost as well.

Well...I'm trying to look get another phone, but I still have almost 19 months left on my contract. I was able to unlock my other Iphone on the weekend, so I will see if I can find something cheap. I'm trying to negotiate with Bell if they will make an exception, but it may just make better sense financilly to cancel my line, or just wait for the next iphone to come, and until then like u said just use a cheap phone.
Bell is telling me to pay almost $270 plus new hardware price of any phone I want, of course with the renewal of a contract.....whereby I'm looking at almost over $500+................and it will cost me only $370 to cancel my services. So just weighing my options rite now. I do have a really good plan with them, and have been a long time customer so we'll see whats next.

Nope, I didn't know such thing existed....but I think its our responsibility solely to take care of our stuffs. Its unfortunate that I somehow managed to lose it, but paying all these extra costs to companies is just irresponsible as well...............had i known about it, I wud still have not paid to get any sort of insurance...Like I said, it was my fault to have carried both of my phones at the same time. Usually its only one that I carry.
I'm so sorry that happened. Hopefully no one can get to your personal things (passcode?). It really all boils down to whether you had the app "find my iPhone."
Sorry about what happened. I agree with ttdub, in case you'll purchase a new iphone, download a FIND MY iPHONE app. It's accurate in locating missing iphones.

No need to download anything. It's a matter of enabling the service on the phone itself in settings. Then you can track it from any webbrowser. The only reason to download the app is to track other iOS devices.
In some ways.....I wish Apple had a way to somehow lock the Lost/stolen iphone when it got connected to itunes. It wud definately discourage people from stealing or if people found them, they wud want to return them than keeping them.
If they can lock back the jailbroken iphones than this shud not be a huge task.
