    Early upgrade still available?

Hello, I signed a 3 year contract in September 2010 and I am wondering if I am still to upgrade after 24 months ? Or would I have to pay ?

I have a HTC Desire on a voice only corporate plan.

    Thank you.

Since you signed before Nov 21 2010 you are on the old EDUF scheme. You will have to pay $10 for each remaining month off your contract, plus additional $25 device upgrade fee. That on top of new contract price for the device you are upgrading to. You don't pay tax on the EDUF, but you pay tax on the rest.

A full hardware discount offer should show up on your account at the 4 month mark (May-ish 2013).

If you call loyalty at 6 months remaining they often will give you a free upgrade at that point.

If you want to pay for your upgrade loyalty can also apply a discount to the $10 per month remaining. 25% off is typical so $7.50 per month remaining.

Also you can get an exact calculation of the upgrade fees including any loyalty discounts by logging into the http://www.telusmobility.com/youraccount website and clicking on view offers.

We think everyone should be able to afford a wireless phone. That's why we were the first wireless company in North America to offer pay-by-the-second airtime, and why we don't charge an activation fee. NO scary contract to sign. Immediate national coverage. And a 30-day satisfaction guarantee. Yes, it's finally time to get a wireless phone.

Click on "View Offers" not equipment swap.

After you click on that it will show you a list of all the phones you can buy and what they will cost you including the price of the early device upgrade fee minus any loyalty credits and discounts they are offering.

I don't get that, the offers are the same as any schmuck that walks into a Telus store that's willing to sign a 3 year contract. I would've hoped that there would a 50$ discount if you're willing to resign. Would it be too much to ask ?

You forget the fact 'the schmuck' is a new customer and you are not. New customers get full advantage. You've been already 'harvested'.

L&R isn't going to give handset discounts because TELUS pays the full price for the phone from the manufacturer and you're already getting the full subsidy with the price listed on the site so there's no 'shmuck' on either side. What you can do however is ask for some level of renewal bonus such as Caller ID, unlimited incoming, additional airtime or long distance, etc. for the length of your term.

Thanks for the illustration but that didn't work for me, it tell me to call telus for more information because I am on a corp plan.

I suppose it's much too early anyway , I am only half way through the contract

Well if it's a corporate plan and the website doesn't show you the early upgrade fees then the upgrade rules can actually be different from the standard ones and you must call in.

A corporate plan can have custom upgrade rules negotiated with telus as part of the corporate agreement. You might be eligible for a free upgrade right now for all you know. They might have special exceptions for upgrading from a voice plan to a data+voice plan that allows you to upgrade after only 12 months.

My corporate plan allows me to upgrade every 18 months even though I'm on a 3 year contract. You just have to dial 611 and that will get you into the corporate care and they will be able to tell you.

Here is a question for you knowledgeable people (not trying to hijack this tread as it is about upgrades). If your on a corporate plan and want to upgrade early, do you pay the early upgrade fee to the allowed date or until the end of the whole 3 years? To explain better, I'm 18 months in this August 5th. If I want to upgrade say to the new Galaxy III this may, what would my penalty be, 3 months or 21 months????

So I finally called Telus and found out my corp plan also allows for upgrades every 18 months so I am actually eligible now.

The agent offered a free 16gb iPhone 4s but I will wait for the new Androids in the summer.

    Thanks for the tips!
