    "No SIM Card" problem

I've just received a new unlocked Xperia Ray, I inserted my Fido SIM card, the phone was working very well (received and made some calls). I then plugged it to the computer and downloaded the Sony Companion software and updated the phone's software. When I tried to make another call, I noticed the "Emergency Calls only. No SIM Card". I turned the phone off, removed the SIM card and re-insert it, turned the phone on again and still got the same message.
I tried with another card from Rogers and add the same error message. Both cards works in other phones.

Is this problem related to the Sony companion software?
How can I fix this issue?

I don't mind looking like I fool and hoping it could help somebody else, but I have learned something. Some phone let's you actually enter the Sim card the wrong way, the ST-18a is one of them. So now everything is all right.

If your SIM is a few years old, I would ask your provider for a newer SIM.

My SIM is 8 years old. I have another one 'unactivated' but maybe 6 year old card.
Should I change it? Or get a 3G card even if I don't have a data plan yet.

I would just ask for the newest SIM card for your provider.

Try re-installing the SIM card another way. There is no "foll proof" design in the Ray as it is able to accept upsidedown SIM cards.
