    Weird Thing happening while texting

I have a motorola droid x. Over the last few days, something strange has been happening while I am typing a text message. Sometimes, the letters in the word I am typing disappears or turns into dots. Usually, once I hit the space-bar, it goes back to normal and I can read the word again. Additionally, while typing a text, the screen seems to freeze for a second, then the keypad disappears and I am back in the text viewing screen. I can click on the bottom of the screen to continue typing where I left off.

Has anyone else experienced this? I am wondering if the processor is being over taxed when this happens, or maybe my phone is going. I would like any help you can offer.

    Thanks so much.
I can resist everything except temptation.

Whatever it is, it's not likely a hardware issue. Did you take the 605 OTA? I have seen many posts about phones acting strangely after OTAs late in the lifecycle.

It sounds like a software issue to me. Maybe malware, like a badly written keylogger. If you can -- research this carefully and thoroughly before doing anything! -- try flashing back to 602. That just might fix it.

If you don't have experience with rooting & flashing, etc. I suggest living with it as is -- the phone isn't gonna die from it -- and researching your next upgrade.

If it did any upgrades, it must have done it without me knowing. I am searching now to find out what ota I have.

    Thanks again.

Go into Settings -> About Phone and look at System Version. Mine has the latest update, which is 4.5.621.MB810.Verizon.en.US. 605 is actually an older update, but better if you want to be able to root your phone. I've never had anything happen like what you're describing, nor heard of it from others. It could be some kind of malware, and I'd try to rule that out first. Also, check out any apps you recently added and make sure they aren't the problem. Other than that, I can only suggest the standard things: make sure it isn't getting too hot; try not to run too much in the background (I know that's hard to control, so don't worry too much about it); make sure the battery is okay. If you're still under warranty, you could take it in and get it checked out. Good luck!

Ok, I dl AVG Mobilation and am running a scan now. My version is 4.5.596.MB810.Verizon.en.US. I guess if the malware comes back negitive, I'll try the update.

Well, the AVG didn't find anything. I do I check for keylogger? Could this be installed without my knowing. This problem was really bad today. It would kick me out after every word. Very irritating.

Try downloading and installing another software keyboard and see if the problem goes away when you use it.

I tried a different text messaging program but that didn't help. I'll try the keyboard. Oh, and I was unable to dl the updated software.
