Telus now selling refurb Galaxy S2 X for $399

ok yes i know why am i talking about telus...

because this phone AKA Samsung T989 Hercules is AWS capable and works very well on Mobi.

all you need to do is get it unlocked.

Ya saw that earlier. Guess it's a decent price, but it is a refurb. To be honest, I'd wait and see what the GS3 looks like first, and if that person in the WIND forum is hinting toward an Xperia S for WIND, I'd wanna wait as well, because I've had my eyes on the Xperia S for awhile now. If it is indeed true that it'll get an AWS version, I'd have to give it some serious consideration.

You sure as heck ain't getting an Xperia S or GS3 for $399 on launch. Try $599. This is for people who don't have a wad of cash to throw down on a pretty good smartphone.

No kidding they won't be $399 at launch. But we are talking about technology afterall so makes sense to wait for 2 flagship devices this year especially with the rumoured GS3 launch in May. Of course its the individuals call at the end of the day, just thought I'd point out those 2 upcoming phones as alternatives.

This phone can overclock to 1.8 ghz and can get 20+ hrs on a single charge. Its an awesome phone for this price. Tons of dev support and custom roms galore. Its a backup to my Note.

GS3 will more than likely be $649 like the iPhone.

This isn't that good of a deal, a number of users reported being unable to automatically connect to Mobilicity on the Telus GS2X. That'll be quite the PITA in the long run for a $400 phone.
The word 'Pentaband' means '5 Bands', from the Greek word 'pente' meaning '5'. For a phone to be pentaband it has to support 5 bands. If the phone has AWS support, it doesn't automatically mean that it is pentaband. The reason Wind and Mobilicity users like pentaband phones is because the reverse is true. We're not the only ones who like pentaband phones though, so please stop referring to phones that work on Wind and Mobilicity as pentaband. It causes unnecessary cofusion.

I wonder if that is because of rom customization. I have a koodo phone running on a Rogers sim. The apn information would not map over from the sim. I think the koodo apn settings are hard coded into the rom. Once I had cm7 installed, the Rogers apn data appeared right away without any manual intervention.

That's because they don't know what they are doing. You have to set up the phone to only use aws bands. Very easy to do and easily found via a Google search.

I never had to change any apn settings. It worked out of the box. The only thing the apn settings helped is facebook. Loaded much faster.
