UPDATE: Wrote a letter to the "Correspondence Team" at VZW, asking why I get 1X in the extended area served by USCC, while in the same spot, a USCC subscriber gets 3G. Got a call back from a rep telling me that the next time I'm in that area, and still getting 1X, I should call VZW tech support and see if they can isolate the issue. The rep claims I should be getting 3G.
Given that I've been getting 1X in that area ever since I've had a smartphone, (almost 2 years), and that others who posted on this thread who have VZW, seeing the same slow 1X data speed, I think I just got dumped on with a load of VZW BS. All this time and I'm the first to write to VZW about this issue, and they are unaware of the problem? Ha! I don't work for VZW, why should I troubleshoot their problem?
When I called them inquiring about the ETF's and what not they sort of tried to take this same approach. I had to talk them out of it and told them it was a waste of everyones time since it is not a technical issue but wrather the nature of the roaming agreement.
UPDATE: (5/6/12) In response to a second letter to VZW regarding the 1X data speed while roaming in western MD., I received a voicemail (call went directly to voicemail; I guess they didn't have the nerve to lie directly to me a second time), saying that the problem would be reported to the network division.
My Mom had a favorite expression that the squeaky wheel gets the oil. If enough folks complain about the slow data while roaming, perhaps they will be shamed into doing something about it.
I'd suggest WRITING to VZW to register a complaint. The address is:
Verizon Wireless
Attn: Correspondence Team
20 Alexander Drive
Wallingford, CT 06492
Aw s**t. Now I discovered that some of the texts I sent out while in the extended area around Little Orleans, MD, never arrived to the recipient. My granddaughter texted me and I replied with two separate texts (I was already aware that texts with more than 160 characters don't go out in that area). She didn't receive either, and when I recently visited her, I showed them to her on my phone.
How long is Verizon going to put up with this crappy service from USCC for VZW customers?
I am done with Verizon, I am fed up with their ****. These new upgrade fees just go to show what Verizon is all about, the money. I suppose this is why they insist on calling me at least once if I go past the due date by a few days - I can't change my payday. End rant.
Well they are a company...the point is to make as much $$$ as possible. You are always free to take your business elsewhere.
