Flashing a Prevail. Need 3g.

I've been a long time lurker here. I was at my wit's end as to where to talk about this and finally came to the conclusion that this is the place.

I'm sorry that this is going to be long as I've done quite a few things by myself and am at the last step before the great accomplishment.

Anyway. So here is my issue.

I have flashed a Evo 4g for a friend. To flash his phone we used his (at the time) current phone on Boost mobile. The Prevail. So now I have a Prevail sitting at home that's not any use to anyone. I successfully zeroed out the MEID of the phone so now it's a glorified wifi ipod for my son.

I have an incognito esn that I bought from someone else. What I want to do is program the Prevail with the MEID of the incognito.

The end result is going to be the Prevail is going to go on Boost as an incognito. I'm going to activate the account as a pay-as-you-go phone with web add on. That's going to put the phone as a 3g internet phone with the option to call out. With 3g thought you can do text messages to and from the phone using something like textfree, etc.

I've also succesfully flashed the Prevail with the incognito's MEID, and changed the MSL too (if that is necessary at all).

I cannot get 3g natively. I can get 3g by programming the phone's profile 0 & 1 with generic passwords. But after getting 3g I cannot Update Profile. The user name is set at the generic ones. By generic I mean my account's passwords.

Update profile would program the phone with the real password and username etc.

Someone who understood this please help me out or give me the right way of going about this...

This assumes the MEID on the Prevail is already what it needs to be.

1. ##786# reset the Prevail
2. Write the correct profile 0 AAA key and NAI (write NV items 465, 466, 1192, 1194)
3. Let it activate OTA

I thought you can't read/write the NV items on this phone.
How did you get it too?

Actually you're right. When I first got the phone I tried a few things with it and it'd stop responding after a bit. Very difficult phone to deal with.

Just the other day I tried to do it again just for kicks (or something). Opened CDMA WS. Clicked over to the Security tab and sent the MSL (Boost had given it to me when I switched phones). The phone was reported unlocked... Then I sent the Sprint Password. The phone was reported unlocked again. But this time I could read everything on it.

What happened? How is it possible? IDK. Maybe the phone is out of warranty (over a year that I bought it) so it "unlocked" itself.

I could change the MSL, read NV items etc. YMMV. I zeroed out the MEID by writing to the efs before... but this time I could rewrite it using QXDM.

How did you get it too?

You can read/write EFS after sending the Samsung default password.

I still hate the phone, though. The lack of a proximity sensor makes me want to kill it with fire.
