    Another pissed Rogers customer

I was looking for a LTE data -only plan to use on my galaxy note a while back. I was told by a sales at a Rogers+ store that the flex tablet plan should work. And of course it didn't. So he threw me another 2gig data only plan for $5more per month than the top tier of flex plan. I was like fine as long as no contract I just wanna play around a bit with LTE. And then that didnt work either, so he offered something $10 more and only with 1g. I got pissed and was on the phone with customer service for literally an hour trying to sort things out. In the meanwhile they offered me yet another plan that eventually was proven nonexistent.

Stupid thing is I already ported my number from mobilicity and lost my friends and family plan with them but then was told multiple times that the plans they promised simply won't work or don't exist. Eventually they gave me some data only plan cost $10more than the top tier of flex plan with 3month unlimited. and that doesn't have LTE either.

Not happy with the way they do business, I switched to telus and wanted to port my number out from Rogers, then was told that on top of the 30 day notice, I have to pay for a month without being provided service in order to port out. The rep said something like I have to put the number in a suspended mode to port out, and during that period no service is provided but I have to pay the bill.

Totally a WTF situation wasting of time and money.

For the 30 day thing, contact CCTS, and they will tell Rogers it's not legal to collect that payment.
As soon as you port out to Telus or whomever, your account will be cancelled anyway. DO NOT TELL ROBBERS that you're leaving, they'll cancel your plan before you can port.

The rep lied. They do not have to suspend your number and in fact if they do that then you will not be able to do the port. You have now informed them you will be porting. Leave it at that. Do the port. When the scam you for the 30 days of dead air, file a CCTS complaint and they will have Rogers refund the funds. Their system does not even allow them to enter a 30 day notice, though they require it in their contract, so it is a total scam.

Some people have even turned the table on Rogers. They dispute the dead air charges with their credit card company, explaining they were charged for services that were never rendered. The card company reverses the charges and Rogers knows better than to try to collect on the charges. The CCTS refund also gets issued, so customer ends up getting paid to leave. If someone is getting money for nothing and if Rogers wants to encourage that sort of ethical behavior, I guess they deserve it when it happens to them.

Oh wow thanks a lot for the replies and to the amazing hofo. I actually chose to lose my number, suck it and move on. Now it looks like a shame but hopefully this experience and your replies will prevent it from happening to others.

    Thanks again!

Well, since they can't actually accept your 30 days notice, then they have two choices in their repertoire. They can do nothing or they can cancel your line. If they cancel your line, then your number is locked or at least not available for porting. Choice number 3, which they don't really like, is for you to tell them you are going to port in 30 days and instruct them to do nothing except make a note of that on your account. You have then fulfilled your 30 day requirement and they haven't locked your number.

Not so much an urban legend as much as a misstatement of what actually can happen.

Not if you tell them not to cancel your account. If you don't notify them at all, you might have difficulty with CCTS when trying to get the dead air fee back.
