How old is your computer?

I'd consider myself a computer nut. Over the years I've built many computers and used to upgrade at least every 2 years. However, my current desktop (Intel Core i7 965EE) is now over 3 years old while my laptop is 2+ and I'm not really thinking about replacing either of them.

While the computer industry is constantly changing, in general hardware from a few years ago runs stuff well enough that I don't see a point in upgrading at this point in time.

Ultrabooks are nice but in a way they're netbooks on steroids in the sense that they provide 'just enough power' in a portable form factor - this isn't a bad thing but it's not something I really want. Windows 8 might bring a whole bunch of touch sensitive monitors but again that's not a feature I'm really interested in on my desktop.

Opps, I forgot about Macs. My Mac is a Core Duo (not core duo) that's 5 or 6 years old. I don't use it much. It shipped with a regular hard drive but I stuck a SSD in it a while back and it's sufficient for general usage.

4 yo HP dv2000 w turion dual core 2.0. My phone is faster on wifi and about the same on tmo faux g, but the HP still gets the job done. I'm thinking the death of the laptop is finally here.

My Dell Inspiron 15R N5110 is almost a year old. It has SB i3, 6GB DDR3, 320GB HDD, and an AMD HD 6470M. It's fast enough to play MW3 and such.

You're taking me back to the day before I went PC. Had an Apple IIe; and wrote some stuff in basic.... the netbook thing gets me too; they seem to have such a short half life relative to every other computing device. I had a Lenovo net book that converted into into a touch pad... the only thing it really excelled at was playing Angry birds about as well as my IPhone 3g.

I like my iPhone 4s a lot but it's not that different from my iPhone 4.

I think we're getting close.

I don't really feel the need to upgrade nearly as often as I used to. These days my phones are being replaced on almost a yearly basis. Previously, I was on closer to a monthly cycle.

It's really gotten to the point where my phone does everything I could want it to do, and does it well. I don't see myself replacing my Galaxy Nexus anytime soon.

My needs are pretty slim. For the past 4 days I've been using an eee PC 1025c, Asus's current generation netbook. This is an upgrade from my previous Dell Vostro a90, which was a first generation Atom machine.

As long as I can get on the web, I'm set. Honestly, I'd love a Chromebook, but for the money you get way more out of a netbook.

I also see the falling off of rapid growth in technology in computers. I guess our needs haven't increased that much, but since our current generations of computers do everything we ask of them, I guess they are fine. I have a feeling that the new batch of macbooks that might be coming out will have touchscreens. I guess Windows 8 will be touch screen as well. For small laptops I think the touch screen would make things much more easy to use sometimes.

Heh I'm still using my Dell dimension 521 with XP. AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual core. Bought in '06 and the sad part is its the fastest computer I have

I got a used Dell Latitude E6400 a few months ago. This model is about 3+ years old but a huge improvement from my previous computer which was a Pentium 4.

Since I'm not a gamer, I expect it to last me another couple of years.
