    Low Memory Messages

My HTC Incredible, running Gingerbread 2.3.4 has started giving "Low Memory" messages. When I click the message it takes me to the "Manage Applications" screen where it usually shows that I am using around 232 MB and have 516MB free. I have moved pretty much everything that I can to the SD card. Apps, photos, etc. I'm wondering why it is saying Low Memory when it still shows 512MB free?

Clear the caches of all applications where it is available, move everything you can afford to move to the SD card and then reboot your phone.

Been there, done that. Still wondering why with 232MB used and 512MB free it is worried about low memory. I suppose it's just a threshold that that the OS has set?

I'm also curious about the memory arrangement:

    a. The phone has 8GB of internal memory.

    b. When I go to "Manage Applications" it shows 232MB used and 516MB free.

    c. When I go to "SD & Phone Storage" it shows 6.60 GB total "internal storage" and 6.30GB free

    d. When I go to "SD & Phone Storage" it shows 748MB "Total Space" and 516MB free

"b" and "d" seem to pretty much agree, so it is apparently this "total space" measurement that it is worried about. What all goes into this "Total Space"? Locally installed apps? Cache files? Other work files? Pictures (if you haven't stored them on your SD card)? Text messages (I don't see any way to direct those to your SD card)?

i think it may be referring to low RAM rather than low storage. the word "memory" can be vague because, traditionally, it's been used to refer to either storage or RAM(random access memory). the word has been corrupted because of early systems that used them interchangeably

    either
    1) take the battery when the phone is on. this will solve the problem for a few weeks
    OR
    2) use another home replacement other than sense

What does the regular stock task manager say about what is using how much memory?

I'm getting the memory figures directly from Android, not from the HTC app. Or at least I think I am. I am using the "green gear" to get into setup and getting the figures from there.
