    Thumbs down Samsung Fascinate owners

    For anyone who has a samsung fascinate on PP, did you get the 2.3(Gingerbread) update? I have been trying to update mine for the longest but I keep getting a message that there's no new software available. I would think even though I am not with Verizon I should still get the update.

    You could put it on manually if you want, it's fairly easy. I wouldn't bother though, having had an ICS Rom for the last few months I can tell there is no going back to gingerbread. ICS runs super smooth on the Fascinate and has all the advantages of owning a GNexus, minus the 4G.

    What is an ICS Rom, are you jail broken?

    ICS= Ice Cream Sandwich

    Its the latest update to android that is basically only on the Galaxy Nexus and a handful of tablets. There is no jail breaking with android but it has a similar process called root. No need for root to flash a custom rom on the Fascinate.

    A custom Rom is basically a new operating system for the phone. The Fascinate's last major update was to version 2.3 gingerbread by Verizon. It is no longer going to receive major updates just some possible maintenance updates. There are a lot of developers who have ported the new version of android 4.04 ICS to the Fascinate and it works great. You just have to put it on the phone yourself.

    Can you point me toward that Rom, I would like to try it provided no rooting is necessary. Thanks

    While this does not require root to do, when you are finished you will have root because it is built into the ROM. Samsung doesn't lock their phones down at all and you can just flash a ROM that has been pre-rooted.

    Just follow the instructions below step by step and it will be fine.

    This link is the instructions for flashing the Team Hacksung ICS build. I have tried it and AOKP ICS and found AOKP ICS to be better for me. But the instructions are actually the same for flashing AOKP ICS. Just substitute the AOKP ICS build for the Version 8 build in the intructions. Also use AOKP Gapps file instead.

    Latest AOKP build, use build 33

    Gapps file found on bottom of the page

    Remember that everything will be wiped so its like starting from day one. You can backup programs with Titanium backup and/or Text Messages with a few programs from the market but I have always found starting completely from scratch to be the best option.

    Persim,

    Can you let me know what you did to get AOKP ICS working on your fascinate? Every time I flash I get no 3g. Did you have to change an APN on the phone or anything?

    Thanks
