Boost doesn't have BYOD for Sprint Android devices. Normally what happens is someone clones say, an Incognito's MEID to, for example, an Evo 3D. So Boost, not knowing any better, thinks your Evo 3D is an Incognito and allows you to use the PAYGO plan. The problem with this in a post-4G Boost Mobile world is that the 4G WiMax service is provided by an entirely separate entity (Clear) and unless Boost thinks you're using the Evo Design (or any future released 4G phones), Clear will never get the message that your WiMax MAC address is authorized on their network. The end result is exactly what people with 4G phones flashed to Boost get: no 4G.
Now, there are people who have working 4G by way of a cloned MAC address. Some of these people do have legitimate WiMax service on another device (tablet, laptop, bundled with their home ISP, etc.) Others are basically piggy backing on service someone else pays for, and that is just plain old illegal (like stealing cable). The opportunity the Evo Design opens up is that it may be possible to use it as a donor and, for example, use Boost with 4G on an Epic Touch instead. $299 is a lot to spend on a donor phone, though.
Really though, the whole thing is absurd and Boost should just implement actual BYOD.
