Hi - can you or someone please verify if this is true - a verizon/sprint iphone 4s (even if unlocked) will not work on straight talk?? PLEASE confirm, thanks.

For it to work, it would not only have to be unlocked, but ALSO have a radio unlock and possibly custom firmware. Now, I am not saying it is impossible, because it IS probably possible. However the average user will be much better off just getting a AT&T iPhone in the first place than trying to mess with it.

There's a quote (edited for profanity, lol) from the movie Blade that really applies here:

Some mother******* are always trying to ice-skate uphill.

Truer words were never spoken when it comes to dealing with Apple's security measures. Even if you do manage to get it working, you'll be fighting a constant uphill battle against Apple's updates. Just buy an AT&T iPhone.

Yep, learning that the hard way. Apparently with a new Gevey Ultra S Unlock (http://www.ijailbreak.com/iphone/unl...y-ultra-s-sim/) you can use GSM SIM cards on Sprint/Verizon phones. Unfortunately, I just bought a new 64gb "unlocked" 4s yesterday because it was a good deal, thinking it would work with my straight talk service, but having some major headaches with getting it to work. Just going to try to re-sell it without losing much $ (I hope) and get a straight AT&T model.

I don't understand how this is possible, there is no physical place on the verizon model of the iphone to actually place a sim card (or am I just missing it/does it involve somehow opening the phone up?)

There have been several reports of the GEVEY sim working on ST with a 4S.

    Dig deeper! It's out there!

And for all you saying it's not possible, shut up. You don't know first hand.

I can confirm its 100% possible to use a Sprint 4s on straighttalk with the gevey sim card. I paid $25 for a gevey sim on ebay, i tried it and it was authentic so i ordered one for a relative to use an AT&T on tmobile and worked. Let me know if you want to know the name of the seller.

I can also 100% confirm this works from first hand experience. I am currently using my AT&T straight talk SIM on a Verizon 4s unlocked with the gevey ultra s. Got everything working, voice/sms/mms/data...it's probably not ideal since you'll always be behind the curve with ios updates, since you have to wait for them to figure out how to unlock the new ios version, but it does work.

Does iMessage and Facetime work for you? I haven’t done any research on how to fix it but they don’t work for me. I also have problems with another iphone user when sending/receiving pictures. Everyone else works.

Yes, but every new security fix/release of iOS has the potential to knock your device out of action until GEVEY gets around to fixing it. Easier to sell your CDMA model and get a refurb 4S from Newegg.

Unlock sim from Iphone 4/4S CDMA works!!

They factory unlock only for international use. Even if they unlcok we cannot be able to use it in USA. We must be using a gevey/software unlock to use in GSM networks in USA.

    Yes that is correct!!

The sim is on the side... same place it would be on the AT&T version. Yes they can be unlocked but if you count on the carrier to unlock it, they will unlock it only to work with international sim cards not their US competitors.
If you care to switch to a US carrier look into the GEVEY or the R-SIM for your version of iPhone to unlock and use any GSM carriers.
That's how I got mine set up

Yes that is correct!! US carriers will not unlock the sim so you can you with US competitors.
The iPhone 4/4S even on the latest 5.1.1 OS works with the Gevey hardware and also the new R-Sim V. This is how I unlocked my CDMA 4S using it on Straight Talk and everything is working well. Here is a link to look up the R-SIM V: http://www.eachsupplier.com/r-sim-v-...the-world.html
The Gevey is sold from www.Applenberry.com - Many love it, but I had some issue with it, so I ordered the R-Sim 5. It came straight from Hong Kong. You have options

That is terrible I feel for you... such a headache to have to resell a phone and get another device. I had some trouble with the Gevey from Applenberry and it was a genuine one. In any case just want you to know that besides the Gevey there is also the R-Sim V made by that same company. It worked well for me when I followed the directions to the T. Look it up if you have some time.

Hi Sunsean, I have a Gevey Ultra S on the way for my Verizon 4S. What did you do to get the sms/mms working with no issues? Did you do the unlockit APN change? Looking to dump my $180 VZW plan for my wife and go to $90 ST for both of us!
