Anyone use Skype for 2.3c/min outgoing calls?

I'm using the Page Plus 10c/min Standard plan. I have data turned off (on my phone). Usually when I need to make a call (at work or at home) I have wifi access.

Skype has minutes for 2.3c/min: http://www.skype.com/intl/en-us/pric...-united-states

(they also have a $3 unlimited calls monthly subscription)

I wonder if I can save even more money by using the Skype app to make calls over Wifi, so I can refill at PagePlus even less. At 2.3c/min, that's over 400% cheaper than my Page Plus plan... Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I've used Skype on and off for years. I maintain a yearly subscription (a bit less than $3 a month) just in case. Always had excellent voice quality. In fact, I used one of the first "Skype" Phones as my primary house line for the better part of 6 months several years back. So I'd say go for it, just be careful on the data, and if you are using PagePlus data to route the Skype call...forget it, as your per-minute cost skyrockets.

There is an app, for the iPhone, called Talkatone that will let you make free calls over WiFi. I used it today to call my mom, my cell to her landline, and it worked just fine. The call quality was great on my end. I checked my Page Plus balance afterwards, and no minutes were deducted, so it was totally over WiFi.

It is free app, so if you can find it, for your phone, give it a try.

I'm aware of Talkatone but IMHO it sucks. Besides the ads and poor UI I have experienced terrible voice quality and had many times on the road where it could not connect because of a firewall or such. Never had any issues with Skype...the only plus with Talkatone is GV integration but way too many drawbacks for me. Just my two cents...

I don't know about Talkatone, but there are several apps for Android that let you make free wifi calls using Google Voice. I use Sipdroid and never have any problems. Lots of other people use GrooVeIP.

I'd definitely recommend one of the SIP apps over Talkatone.

Sipdroid has the best audio quality of all of the apps I have tested.

I have never had a good enough internet connection to support VOIP.

I have never used skype. However, I had been using grooveip for several months and liked it. I'm back on the 1200tnt so I hardly use it, but last week I tried it at home a few times and it was having some quirky issues. So I froze it again - don't need it.
I recently tested the "don't mention a PP Dealer by name" rule here on PP Hofo......trust me, it is still in effect - got me a 7 day ban.
