Would a SGN owner be so kind as to run a little task on your phone? A co-worker bought the International version of the Note and his Regional code (CSC) is "KOR". KOR is a generic code and therefore he is not eligible for any Android updates (neither OTA or by Kies). If he doesn't change the code, he will stay forever at 2.3.4

My International version has a code from the Middle East. Although I don't live there, when my phone checks for updates it can have them because the Middle East exists. My code is not on his list of 16 different codes. We tried COA for Romania and the update to 2.3.6 did download to his phone but failed to install. The program Samsung Kies refuses to acknowledge the phone saying that KOR is not a compatible CSC region code.

So I wonder if any of your codes might be on his list. Here is how to find out what your code is.

1- go to "about phone"
2- write down your IMEI number
3- go to phone's dial pad
4- punch in *#272*IMEI#

(by IMEI I mean the number you jotted down)

a screen will come up with a bunch of region codes but your code will be the big one at the top. Then press cancel to go back to the dial pad when done.

I would appreciate it if you would. I feel bad that he gets stuck on 2.3.4 and wont ever get 4.0 (he is really not the type to flash or root etc etc)

DBT is Germany and yes it does receive updates. You must have bought it at 2.3.6? If not, you should already have the update available to you OTA or by Kies. The only code that I know for a fact will not update is "KOR"

Thanks to those who had the time to help :-)

He was going to return the phone to newegg but when UPS showed up to take it away... he cracked lol. He said he can't go back to an iphone or any small screen. Plus he's always doing stuff with that S-pen.

So he turned it over to me and I did a Check Fus Downloader + Odin. I was able (with my phone's info) to find and flash his Note with an exact copy of the stock ROM that my Note has. That gave me the ability to change his Region Code from KOR to AFR. Kies now accepts his phone and he is running 2.3.6

God forbid that he didn't have the note's big screen to watch the video's his wife won't let him look at ;-)
