Not that much but if you were just going to toss it I would offer you something.

I would not hold my breath on RIM coming up with anything other than a bankruptcy Claim. they are DONE! Watch the news? they are not even releasing the 10 before christmas. Thats going to be the last nail in the coffin for them...thanks to Jim for keeping his eye on the ball which was fighting with bettman over a hockey team instead of developing good products for the consumer.

Heh heh, yeah. I'm not actually waiting for a specific phone, certainly not a BB. Of course Apple has now made my Galaxy Nexus contraband in the US, so who knows what's happening next.

I wouldn't be surprised if BB10 never comes out. Obviously they're hoping it's their equivalent of Apple's OSX. Who knows, maybe it will be. People forget Apple seemed done in the 90s and now they seem unstoppable.

Until someone wows me with a better phone or i find a cheap source for screens, I'll be using my sad little cracked Galaxy Nexus.

The whole reason I avoid Samsung like the plague is the build quality on their products is total ****. It's not just phones, or the Galaxy Nexus, it's pretty much everything. My work phone is a HTC HD7 and it has taken a serious amount of punishment. "Mobile" phones should have enough strength to handle some punishments.

I have to agree, OP needs to take some responsibility.

All the stuff being said here is pretty anecdotal, the galaxy nexus does use "unbranded fortified glass" he just happen to drop his phone by accident, and it hit the (relatively) hard ground at a certain angle to "smash the corner"

It just comes down to probability, have enough phones over the years, drop them here and there and eventually you will get one that seemingly cracks the screen on the first drop.

Take a look here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7-OBoDFeDY#t=1m35s only takes a couple of drops and some 'luck' and Apple products can suffer the same fate.

But honestly with OP's dissatisfaction with the phone in general sounds like he has a negative bias towards it, so yeah.

Cases and protectors are the cheapest insurance you can buy. They should be manadatory or require signing a waiver.

The PenTile technology is not the best screen technology we have ever seen as its not proper RGB display but I believe that Samsung did this on some kind of purpose. It looks stunning, even compared to Apple iPhone’s LCD retina display, Galaxy Nexus or HTC One X’s displays. Will see how well Samsung Galaxy S3 display will perform on real-life tasks but the first impression is very good even considering that we are disappointed about technology used here.

I'm looking to ditch my iPhone 4 for a Galaxy Nexus. I'm tired of Apple's tight grip. I am curious about BB10 too.

I do repairs on both Android and iPhones. They both break, most from falling from a drivers lap as they get out of their automobile. Most samsung phone as difficult to repair because the the fused glass, but I get a ton of both types of phones. I had two iPhone 4's come in yesterday with both front and back glass shattered. I would guess the repair incidence is about the same actually. Naturally the cheaper the phone the less likely it is to break.
To avoid scratches don't carry a phone in the same pocket with keys or change, and don't lay it face down.

I used to pretty much agree with you on the Samsung build quality, but they have improved greatly over the last year and a half, at least in my opinion. HTC has always been good, I have used them since the original 6800 pocket pc/phone. I'm using a Galaxy Nexus now and its excellent. Of course if I break the glass I will just trash it probably. A HTC Evo, HD2 or HD7 on the other hand is extremely reasonable to repair.

This is my main gripe. They make it so bloody expensive to repair that it's simply not worth it. How much do you charge for repairing the Galaxy? I could probably do the repair myself, but I can't even source the screen for a reasonable price. I guess I have to live with this cracked screen until the parts get cheaper or I'm given a good reason to upgrade.

Also, Keep in mind that there are way way more iPhone 4s out there too, so if you are seeing lots of both it could still mean the Galaxy is more fragile. From my personal experience I think it is, but I realize I'm one person. I suspect the oddly shaped glass and the flimsy plastic surrounding it does make the glass more susceptible to breaking. People I know who've broken their iPhones have done it with more force, like smashing it on the corner of a table or something.

I don't repair Samsungs with fused displays at all. The cost is just too high. The iphone 4 has a pretty high incidence of glass breaks simply because no matter how you drop it, glass hits the ground or floor or whatever. Also the bigger the glass gets and thinner the phone gets the more easily it breaks. I have been extremely lucky with my phones, never broke a display, but I have dropped this Galaxy Nexus 3 times and iPhones more than that, never though over 2 feet or so.

Sorry to hear about your Galaxy Nexus, also, that is a ridiculous amount to pay for a repair on a top end phone that is pricey, i dont know what to suggest, as 3rd parties arent always reliable, and you may end up worse off.

Ive had my GS2 for around 9months now, dropped it countless times on all corners on tiles from varying heights, and not a single crack or scratch on the display luckily, it seems to be very well built, on the other hand Galaxy Nexus seems to be using cheaper glass on its display and overall "cheaper" materials and hardware (CPU/GPU/Antenna/DAC/Camera) than GS2 and GS3.
