If you use a "flashed" phone on Boost, you may have noticed you don't get a notification when someone leaves you a voicemail. I've made a few Phone.apk patches for some of the more popular HTC phones, and a ROM for the LG Optimus S/V. You'll need root, the Android SDK installed on your computer and it also helps to have an idea what you're doing, too.
This doesn't flash your phone to Boost, nor does it give you visual voicemail services. This also isn't the only way to get native voicemail notifications working - there are many custom ROMs with working voicemail. But not everyone wants a custom ROM, so that's why I've made these patches. You may (probably will) get force close errors if you use the wrong Phone.apk on the wrong version of Android or the wrong phone. You're welcome to experiment (hey, it's part of the fun!), but don't blame me if something goes wrong - I don't own an original Evo or Shift anymore and can't do any further testing on newer Android versions.
Basically, boot your phone into your custom recovery and mount /system. Pull a copy of your existing Phone.apk and Phone.odex files, then delete them both from your phone. Push the correct patched Phone.apk, reboot and enjoy working voicemail notifications.
These patched Phone.apks are deodexed, so there is no .odex file to worry about.
