Wind will announce new business partnership soon

Anthony Lacavera, CEO of the Canadian wireless upstart, say he's already in talks with U.S. and European companies about investing in the company.

"We have been approached by a number of parties…now that all of this is sorted out, I feel very good and I think you'll see some announcements soon from us," he says. "Getting this whole legal and regulatory battle behind us once and for all and winning it certainly gives us a more solid foundation to attract more foreign capital."
Apparently foreign ownership is okay now, as long as you don't take over 10% of the market. On the other hand, Tony is upset about the 700 spectrum rules so he expects there to be significant consolidation among the upstarts.

"There needs to be new entrant consolidation, so if this government policy achieves anything it will force new entrant consolidation and we intend to lead that consolidation," he says.

"I think that you'll see some announcements soon from us" may be a hint from Tony Lacavera but it's not quite the same as "will announce". His comment just says that there have been discussions but his belief that something will happen doesn't necessarily mean that the parties will be able to come to an agreement. Until any such official Wind announcement, anything we say here about the topic is just pure speculation.

Gazing into my crystal ball reveals that Wind is looking for investors so they can either buy a huge chunk of the 700Mhz spectrum, or to buy out Mobi.

However, my crystal ball was bought from a dollar store and says "made in China" on the bottom, so I can't guarantee the accuracy....

My crystal ball was made by master craftsmen at Swarovski and it says both will happen. However, Wind will wait until Mobi fails to get any 700Mhz spectrum because at that point the value of Mobi will be practically zero.

Why don't you go to the $10,000,000 store and get a "Made in Canada" crystal ball? It will preciously confirm that you are a jxxx.

But unless they can get LTE on every site they already have, they're still going to need their devices to have HSPA+ on 1700. WIND cannot yet afford to have a two coverage areas (HSPA+, LTE) like the big three.

Did you guys watch the video? The expression on his face lends me to believe there's a very good chance it will happen.

Broccoli's prediction seems very likely to me.

If they buy out Mobi, that still wouldn't put them in a competitive position for spectrum in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, or Quebec...

Buying out Mobi doesn't make any sense.

First off, it will use valuable cash that they can use in the upcoming auction and/or to build/upgrade towers to handle the new spectrum

Secondly, if they buy out Mobi, they will become bigger faster, and reach the 10% market share mark a lot faster.

Buying Mobi makes a lot of sense. Wind double their AWS bandwidth from 5 to 10MHz, get new sites and hardware they can leave in place for additional capacity or redistribute to different areas, eliminate their largest competitor at the new auction and use extra CF from acquisition to pay for the deal. It's like hitting 4 birds with 1 stone.

It's Mobi that only has 5Mhz, Wind already has 10Mhz of AWS spectrum.
