$25/mo plan, how much is data for non-SP?

I see no mention of how much data costs on a non-smartphone with the $25/mo calling plan. I don't do a lot of calling really. Data is my main thing.

I have T-mobile prepaid but where I live now, I'd be "roaming" constantly at home (which might not even work on prepaid). T-Mobile's roaming policy for postpaid seems generous... no more than 50%, up to 3 months a year. But I know I'd hit that the first 3 months so that isn't a good option.

There is also no sprint coverage where I live. Sprint post-paid roams on Verizon so prepaid sprint is out of the question. The coverage nationwide stinks anyway which IS a major factor for me.

The only difference is that the $50 plan included unlimited data for nonsmartphones but recognized smartphones have to purchase data packages.

Another lost customer thanks to the stupidity of at&t and their removal of data packages for PAYGO plans.

The prices of the packages has nothing to do with whether AT&T allow data packages on pay as you go accounts. The prices have always been in the same place. Whether or if the Original Poster had data packages before does not affect where you look to find the prices. If the Original Poster were using pay-per-use data with a nonsmartphone, he can continue to do so.

All I needed before was at least $8.33/month to buy a data package and nothing else. Where can I find any data package today that is not attached to a mandatory minimum $25/month "voice tax"? "No sir, the bag of chips is still sold for only 50c but now we only sell it with our $5 12-pack of soda".

The OP is not willing to pay extra $25/month of non-data services just to be able to buy a data package on top of that at rates he/she was expecting to be lower and thus avoid the ridiculously absurd $2/MB PPU rate for non-SP phones.

Didn't you find the prices of the data packages in the same place as they are now? The Original Poster can speak for himself. If he were not on pay-per-use data, he paid some price for the data packages. Whether he found them on the website or through the IVR system, there still was a price he must have paid for the data packages.

If he were going to pay $25 for thirty days of service plus $25 for one gigabyte of data, the $50 plan would be a better choice for a nonsmartphone.

You know that's not what I'm arguing about. I made the mistake of quoting you saying that the data packages were still described in the same place (which they are) while I was trying to explain why the new rules scare new customers away like the OP here:

If I'm wrong, then I'd wish the OP shared with us why he/she didn't like these newly "improved" data packages with the $25/month plan. Or if he/she would have been more interested in them if they were still available under the PAYGO plans instead without the $25/month "voice tax" as they did until last week.

It seems pretty clear that the OP wants data without the voice tax. The $25 and $50 are pure surcharges for people that do NOT want voice. It is purely a money grab. AT&T just became one of the poorest values in prepaid, which is not surprising really.

As I have said before, if the voice tax is going to make you leave, do not simply spend your balance, donate your balance and port. At least your balance goes to a good cause.

Why would he ask for the prices if he were paying them before the changes in policy? From reading some of his earlier messages, he was not a previous GoPhone customer. He appeared to be fleeing from the high prices charged by Verizon.

I dropped my data on verizon from 10GB to 4GB which saves only $20/mo but that's better than nothing. Still $90/mo with tax and bestbuy phone insurance but it's better than $110 like I have been paying. Turns out those ST sims still for more on ebay then ST is selling them for (maybe due to a limit on how many you can buy from ST directly?) so I can resell it there when I get it. The phone seller takes returns so I'll just receive the phone and then turn around and ship it back.

AT&T's prepaid data for smartphones is horrible ($25 per 1GB) or else I'd keep the phone I bought and use their Gophone service.
... and go to a 'basic' Gophone but I do wish I could have a prepaid android on AT&T without it being so dang high for data. $25/GB is insane.

Yes. I have never had a GoPhone. As someone guessed, I mostly just want the data, not voice. I suspect the reason AT&T is going this way is due to services like Skype. Why pay AT&T's 10 cents per minute when you can use skype for 2.3 cents per minute using AT&T's old "unlimited" data service (that's what they dropped if I'm not mistaken?).

Verizon ALMOST is a good deal for their prepaid data wise on basic phones (having a larger network).. but ALL their prepaid phones are 1x. I wonder how their VZ Navigator on 1x phones manages to work without being terribly slow. For smartphones, they to a "voice tax" too of course which ruins it.

The OP was asking about data for a non-smartphone. You quoted him telling he dropped data from 10GB to 4GB. That still really is a lot of data for a non-smartphone. Methinks that was a quite smart phone instead.

cubey, please tell us:
1- You were inquiring here about data for a non-smartphone. Is that the same phone that was using several GBs on Verizon?
2- Or were you checking to see if you could use a smartphone with non-smartphone data rates (can be done with some models, see the other thread)
3- If data packages were still available with the PAYGO 10c/min plan (i.e. no $25/month required), would you be more inclined to use that plan for mostly data (as you say) in your "non-smartphone"?

I have a smart phone on Verizon right now. I was asking about non-smartphone data rates on the $25/mo plan. Really I would prefer a smartphone for the better web browsing experience.. better zooming in and moving around the page when zoomed in.

In the end, the 10 cent/min plan might not even be such a great deal for what I want since I *would* end up using voice more than I probably think. Which would make the $50/unlimited a better deal. I figure I might use 250 mins.. ($25) and if they had a $20/unlimited data.. that's $45 with no texting. May as well pay $5 more and have unlimited.
