    Youtube with UMB

I'm currently on the 17.50 plan with the old $15 VP, which includes UMB. I'm able to go on fb, twn, google searches, google maps, etc with my t715a on EDGE or 3G. However, when I tried to stream via youtube on Thursday, I wasnt unable to stream any videos at all. I tried EDGE and 3G. Nothing. I know UMB works with youtube as I was able to stream videos in March and all the months previously. I've also tried using the youtube app that comes with the phone and via Opera, no good. I tried it at home (Scarborough) and Markville (Markham), still no good.

What is going on here? I'm on the verge of calling in and complaining, but I dont want to complain if the matter is just temporary.

    UMB - unlimited mobile browsing

It's not a data service, you are calling to complain you cannot stream video on a web browsing feature?

They are simply updating their system to provide more accurate services. Consider yourself lucky before that you could do all those without extra charges.

The most recent UMB versions included any and all data usage on eligible devices. It did not matter what you did on it. This happened at the time that the UMB price changed from $7 to $10 per month. I do not recall if that $15 Value Pack was from a time before or after that change. Has that changed with the implementation of some type of access point blocking/port blocking?

The Nokia Symbian S60 devices were the best for UMB as you could use third party programs to use your phone as a wi-fi hotspot and there and it wasn't chargable as it fell within the rules of using an eligible device to provide the connection. I'm not talking about customers in extreme cases who Rogers would consider "abusers" but you could do gigabytes on these plans and not get charged an extra cent.

Technically, the UMB should work because the S-E T715a already carries a but in YouTube App...

I got the plan back in Dec 2010. That was when the T715a thread on here was still active and people on it were reporting that the UMB on the T715a works with everything (other than tethering, mobilemail, and something else).

Tried it again today on Opera and youtube app. No good for 3 days straight.
I'm gonna call them on Monday.
    Thanks everyone.

In my experience, if you have your connection set to use the fido proxy, it will not load youtube videos. Leave the proxy blank.

There's only 3 choices for streaming settings:
    -Fido WAP
    -Internet
    -Fido MMS

It's currently has 'Fido WAP' selected. I also tried streaming on 'Internet' and it still didnt work.

I went into the SIP Setting>Proxy Server settings, and everything is blank. Except port is 5060.

Use apn internet.fido.ca no proxy and no username and passwd is necessary. That should work. Make sure browser and media players are using this APN.

    Regards.

Yea. My phone has those APN. Cant stream youtube still.
Tried other video sites, but those require flash so cant really test it out. Tried video sites using html5, but the download option popped up instead of just streaming it.
I found my brother's Samsung Gravity and tried it. It says 'not supported'. Not sure if Fido doesnt allow streaming anymore or if the Gravity cant stream.
I also tried getting a demo Nokia C6-00 from Fido kiosks (Markville and STC) to try it out. They all said no demos.
Gonna try using a Roger's unlocked Nokia X7 tomorrow and try it out.
Either way, I'll call tomorrow since I found proof that UMB does indeed allow youtube.

    Thanks everyone for the help!

Unlock on the X7 didnt work for some reason (I'm assuming the Roger rep didnt know how and missed it up) so was unable to try it on the X7.
Fortunately, bumped into a friend on Thurs, who uses a C6. Unfortunately, it didnt work either.

Magically, on Saturday, I randomly clicked on a embedded youtube link that was posted it on facebook and it worked. I was at Milton/Halton at the time.
No idea what happened during the weekend, but it's working.....for now....

My sister has a C6. According to her a simple phone reboot will solve the youtube streaming. It may be a 3G network problem.
