Have you ever been to a Verizon store? It sounds to me like maybe you got sucked-in to buying something you didn't want by a good salesman. Caveat emptor my friend.
Actually no, I've never purchased a phone from the Verizon store, always done it online. I used to go in the stores to actually view the products prior to buying them but even that's a joke now when most stores don't have the newest phones for a month or so after they've been released. Good guess though, it's more about the fact that I actually do my research and then go into a store and see them selling year old phones to customers because they're out of newer products like the Nexus.
Walmart is a place to get a phone, but I have never seen them loan out a phone. I have never seen them take a phone apart to clean a mic problem. Nor have I seen them give a phone to a person that just lost his job. Better yet I have never seen them help a customer with their bill. You are right do not understatement the person selling the phone, they my know everything about the phone they are selling. I find Walmart the place to buy something at a low price. With that said also understand that is all they will or can do. I do not get my phones there, I get them from a local dealer. He is about $50 more than Walmart, but everything I just listed they have done. I know times are hard and we all need to save money. I saved $50, but they looked at my account and showed me away to save $20 a month on my bill. That's $240 a year. Helped another customer to do an insurance claim and loaned them a phone even though they was getting it the next day. To put it another way price is not everything, but service is.
They would actually like that cause they would get more money out of you since they don't have to subsidise the amount of the phone and they still get the same amount of money from you every month so they would actually profit off of you,
Very true. One will then be paying Verizon back for a subsidy they aren't using anymore. That's pure profit for Verizon.
YES, I did. I got the upgrade fee waived. They credited my account the 30.00 I called the 3 times expressing my anger but trying to be nice. I told them I will stay with Verizon only if they waived the upgrade fee. After the 3rd call to customer service they finally gave in. I had been with Verizon since they purchased GTE mobile. So being persistent does work.
I was getting ready to click the submit order button on VZW for a shiny new SGS3 ($250 + $30 upgrade fee + $20 tax = $300) and decided to check amazonwireless.com to see if I could get a better deal. The same phone was priced at $199 and didn't charge the upgrade fee nor the tax (which of course I will report on next year's tax filing. So it looks like I just saved $100 by ordering through amazonwireless.com. I'll report back if they try to charge me the upgrade fee during activation, but it seems like a point of purchase charge and should not affect activation.

If you buy from Amazon, they won't charge you the upgrade fee upon purchase, however they will tack on the upgrade fee on your next bill. Either way, you will be paying it.

This is definitely what will happen. I upgraded a family member's line at my local Sams Club back in August. They didn't charge the fee, but it showed up on the next bill from Verizon. When buying from Verizon they charge it at the sale. I'd prefer that as opposed to the surprise $30 charge on my bill.
