Sprint Prepaid cdma had a monster Q1 2012 ... 870,000 net prepaid subscriber additions!!!
(offset by Boost Mobile iDen losses)

Looks like Sprint must be doing something right with their NOW Network...

Does that include mvnos like Ptel, Mingo, Total Call, Kajeet and others? And how much were the Boost iden losses? All that can have a big impact on the numbers. Since they don't jibe with what Ducati is writing, I'm assuming that mvnos are part of that total. Confirm?

It's all in the Q1/2012 report.

The company added 489,000 net prepaid subscribers during the quarter, which includes net additions of 870,000 prepaid Sprint platform customers, offset by net losses of 381,000 prepaid Nextel platform customers. Sprint platform prepaid net additions and Nextel platform prepaid net losses include 137,000 net subscribers who migrated from the Nextel platform to the Sprint platform.

Keep in mind that Sprint includes Assurance Wireless (the freebie government subsidized service) in its additions.

For the quarter, the company added net additions of 785,000 wholesale and affiliate subscribers (all of which are on the Sprint platform) as a result of growth in MVNOs reselling prepaid services.

It "jibes" EXACTLY. The report is very clear and specific.

1)Those MVNOs = "Wholesale and Affiliate" additions.

2)Boost and Virgin Mobile is about as specific as we can get.

3)Sprint's Boost Mobile & Virgin Mobile added 489,000 subscribers

I know AT&T, VZW, T-Mobile and just about all the other wireless carriers would love to have 1.65 Million Subscriber additions each quarter with No Device Subsidies, No Billing issues, just pure up-front profits.

True, but it is a tiny subsidy, usually recouperated within the first month of service. The post paid device subsidies require 6 to 12 months to recoup, sometimes even longer when you factor in value priced plans and multiple line family accounts. Maybe the bean counters are the ones now encouraging further growth within the American prepaid wireless sector. I never thought I would see the day that both VZW and AT&T would offer smartphone prepaid service options of any kind or at any price. I was shocked and pleasantly surprised to see premium smartphone service options on both major carriers, along with several value priced options as well.

Thanks for the updates. Looks like Iden (down to six million) will have three more years at that rate before it zeros out. I'm sure Sprint will kill it when it hits the tipping point though...Iden party till 2013 I guess...my market is still untouched...

There's definitely a subsidy even on smartphones.

I don't know anything about Nextg, but I have been using Page Plus for many years and I am very happy with it.
