While I usually carry a couple of phones around with me one of them is almost always my 4s. I got it on launch day and since then I've taken a little over 6000 photos and videos with it. Since I take so many pictures I always download the photos to make more room on my phone.
The iPhone automatically names your photos IMG_xxxx where the x increments every time you take a new picture or video.
I know less than 100 taken with my iphone 3gs. Have seen many with the 4S and while some are very good, these phones will never replace a good p&s camera..and that's not saying anything derogatory about iphones..it's when you view detail on a high quality screen (like my Sony), the lack of IQ leaves much to be desired, especially when printing.

The 4S takes night and day better pictures than your 3GS...
Nice link and it shows the 4s to be good (not great) for general photo uses. That said, and like the article pointed out, noise is a problem with these camera phones. With a higher end p&s, a macro 4/3, and certainly a DSLR, the differences in image quality is large with noise better under control for cleaner/sharper results with much higher pixel counts. Apple is to be commended for giving their phones a nice camera and for some people these could substitute for a p&s camera. However, many of the higher end p&s cameras (4s is not even in the same ballpark as a DSLR) will capture a better image and able to print much larger than 4s. I have seen a number of pro's carry a back up 4/3 camera for their DSLR on assignment, but never seen anyone use a iphone for any situation where optimal image quality is top priority.
