HTC Wildfire S OS Upgrade & Unlock

I'm looking to purchase a Virgin Mobile locked HTC Wildfire S. The device is for a friend (I'm strictly an iOS user) and need to know a few things before I go through with the purchase.

    1. How can I flash the device to a generic OS like Android 2.3.5 with HTC Sense 2.1?
    2. Is the SIM unlock process relatively simple (such as entering the unlock code into the device and off you go)?

It's been quite a while since I've had to deal with a non-iOS device and unlocking in general. Your feedback on the matter is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

Once you get the code, just put in another sim card and enter the code. I think it comes with Sense 3.0. If you go to XDA developers, there should be detailed instructions for rooting and flashing.

Virgin Mobile phones don't have sim cards, CDMA only no carrier unlock . If all that you're talking about is upgrading the OS then yes you must unlock the bootloader.

Actually I found one on Craigslist locked to Virgin Mobile. It does take SIM cards. I paid for an unlock code online. Everything worked out fine.

The Wildfire S comes in CDMA or GSM variants, not both in the same device. If your phone does have a sim slot and was locked to VM it wasn't VMUSA.

I never stated it was VMUSA? If you check my location I'm located in Canada. Stephen Morris, the original member who replied is with Mobilicity, which is also from Canada.
