I am an existing customer with an old couples plan with 5 phones on it, 2 are Iphones with 6 gig data. I am thinking of switching plans because my current plan does not qualify me for an hardware upgrade to an iphone. What are the minimum voice and data plans to qualify? Also please clarify the rumor that users with "garden plans" (the current plans without SAF) can't get a HUP. Thanks.
As per www.fido.ca
"... Prices shown with new activation on 3-year Fido Agreement on plans of $25 or more and eligible Data Add-on ($10/100 MB Add-on excluded) ..."
Sent from my GT-P7500R using HowardForums
Minimum $50/month...
HUP RULES (Hardware Upgrade Program=Subsidized Phones)
>Fido charges a $25 HUP admin.fee, no matter where you get your phone
>Commitment period = remainder of current term + new term
ELIGIBILITY:
a) Cx is M2M or in the last 6mo. of term
b) Cx takes a new 2Y/3Y term with a voice plan¹ >= $25; {¹ excludes add-on features/VPs}
SP-HUP: 3YR AGREEMENT PRICING ON SMARTPHONES FURTHER REQUIRES:
A) voice plan¹ >= $25
B) ($[voice plan¹] + $[eligible data plan²] - $[voice+data credits]) >= $50(iPhone/Android) or $35(BB); {² Ŕ$10/100MB, Ŕ$15/BB100MB, & Ŕ$25/2GB data plans ineligible}
-violating either rule will trigger the DECF/ADSRF
-EXCEPTION: Cx with BOTH voice & data on agreement, activated prior to Dec 1st, 2010, will be eligible renewing the SAME voice & data options via phone agents (611) only; new phone will be shipped; don't expect credits to auto-renew
Minimum $50/Month to get an iphone as thirstyears mentioned.
Thanks all for the quick and detailed responses. thirstyears: I tried to get the HUP via 611 and mentioned the exception you noted (existing voice and data prior to Dec 1st 2010) but was told I don't qualify as that exception is only offered as a retention plan and employees are not able to get any retention plan. Looks like I have to dump my couples plan and get something more current to get the subsidy.
Further to this story...I called in to change to individual plans for my 5 phones to allow one of the Iphones to upgrade. I was told this time that I did indeed qualify for a subsidized upgrade because the previous agents overlooked the fact that you can include data costs in the average calculation done when a couples plan wants to upgrade. Couples plan customers must average the total of all voice and data and divide by the number of phones. If this is greater than 25 dollars a HUP is allowed. I was thrilled. I said let's do it. I was advised to go to any fido retailer and pick a phone. I went to the apple store. The apple agent tried to do the upgrade but was thwarted by fido's website. He called in and was told "no, he can't do the upgrade" but fido can and would mail the phone to the customer. I received the phone a few days ago and it is now registered on my couples account and is working fine. So the moral...If at first... you know the rest!
the call centre can offer deals that retail cannot.
i got a GNex for 60 bucks only and it arrived a couple days later.
I went to UPS concord to pick it up.
