I am finding all of this very interesting. I recently got a Galaxy Nexus & so I naturally am using way more data (about 50 to 100 MB/day) now that I am not on a Motorola Charm on UMTS (~30 to 50 MB/day) or Flipout on EDGE (5 to 20 MB/day). I too am on the $30/5 GB/unlimited msg/100 min plan & since I don't stream anything besides the occasional YouTube clip, I believe I'll be well within the 5 GB cap. I hope they do fix the time-out issue on the throttled connection, though. 64 kbps as long as it has low latency & doesn't time out can actually work fine for small stuff that's not multimedia. It could hold me over for a couple days till my plan resets. I do think they ought to bump it up to maybe 128 kbps especially for users in 42 Mbps zones. 128 kbps is ~0.3% of their normal peak speed so I'd say that's an appropriate 'punishment'.
