But you'd still get to sell the old one... so it's ~$450 more. However, if you will use more than 45GB of overages over that two-year period on the tiered plans, then it makes economic sense to keep unlimited. Really though, if you get an LTE phone now and lock in the 4GB plan, you're set, unless they want to bump you off that too.
I usually support government regulation, but It is unfortunate that the government over-regulated and killed the AT&T/ T-Mobile Merger
The best explanation of the pricing nutiness in the industry.
Why Sprint and T-Mo will always suck.
The only way to end the pricing insanity is to eliminate contracts and subsidies.
I want Wifi calling on AT&T.
If you text while driving, you're an idiot. End of story.

Don't need them. It's already tough walking through doorways as it is, especially with doors that have return mechs on them - the control arms sometimes take my cap off as the doors close (they hurt like a bit*h if they close the door closes too quickly or if the wind blows them shut behind me). Heels are for insecure (not) men, and maybe guys in drag (yikes).

What's funny is right when I posted, I pictured you walking out the Verizon door and hitting your head. Ouch!

I don't mind paying for tethering or the wireless hot spot on unlimited data. But as soon as we start talking tiered data then charging for the hot spot or tethering feature is absolute bullsh**.

I couldn't agree more with this. I went through that with my Droid 3; I had unlimited data but the hotspot was tiered with $20 per GB overage charges.

Then buying the iPhone 5 for around $650 and walla! im only looking at about a $200 or so increase the same price as if I just went in and upgraded.
That's not the real issue. The real issue is for family lines. Single line users can justify buying/ selling to keep unlimited.

But the costs add up really fast if you have 4-5 lines. Sure they can all do that for this 2 year cycle. But come seventh generation iPhone (2013 iPhone). The buying/selling full price game just becomes way to expensive because family lines are giving up 4-5 subsidies every 20 months.

Like the other poster said. Giving up 5 lines at subsides $400 each. Means giving up $2000 in subsidies. You would have to go over 200GB of data over a 20 month period to justify keeping unlimited for family lines.

Most will rather just pay $200 for subsidized iPhone rather than pay $650 full price. Especially when it's multiplied by 4-5 lines.

For the one line user it may be worth it depending on data usage.

Exactly. I'm glad someone can do the math. It seems like people have some emotional attachment to unlimited, when in reality, it should only be what's the economic best option. At that point, you'd have to look at what all that data is worth. Wasting mobile data like crazy isn't worth $2K of overages or lost subsidies to most people, and managing data use back into reality is probably a much better option, and if the occasional overage happens, it happens, and you still make out way ahead.

That's partly what Verizon is counting on, but the customer gets the upside of all the upgrades, and possibly some savings per month on the shared data, depending on how it's structured, as well as better plans for other people in the family who might be using only a few hundred MB a month or less and are now forced to get the 2GB/4GB plan for $30.

Uhhh...yeah. Anyway I'll be keeping my unlimited data as long as VZW allows it.

As mentioned, this might not hurt and actually be beneficial for those folks with multiple lines. But those of us(me included)with a single line get kind of shafted. The way I see it, unlimited is going the way of the dodo bird and probably sooner than we think. If Verizon thinks that not enough of their users have gone tiered/shared then they will just ratchet up the process. I have a Maxx that has never even see 4G. I hear it's nice.LOL!
By the time we get it here I may not even have unlimited anymore to be able to enjoy all it's faster benefits.(sigh).
Either way, I can't see going with any other provider as Verizon has the best coverage and that's where it's at for me. I can adapt. I'm glad I only have the one line, plus they haven't dropped my corp discount as yet and I'm happy about that, ha! Maybe those will stop as well. Hope not.

You can definitely enjoy the benefits of 4G LTE without using a stratospheric amount of data.

Says who? VZW sells me unlimited data for no subsides; I'm not complaining.

I suppose that's true, as far as it goes. But, if a little is a good thing, perhaps more is even better.

Each time I consider going back to att I just look at how reliable my cell service is with Verizon. Just can't give that reliability up even it it means paying a little more.

I'm sure a lot of people will feel like you do. Still, there's a limit to how far vzw can go relying too heavily on "the network". Price vs. value will always be a major factor in the competition. Vzw is better, no argument here. But, for me, without unlimited data vzw just wouldn't be better *enough* to justify the extra expense any more.
