Fido is selling C6-00s for 125 bucks a pop and I'm tempted (I've always liked nokia phones, my favourite being the n95), but lately all I've read is that their phones sucks.
Now, let's put aside android and windows phones, and iphones. All I want to know is:
Is this thing better than the n95? For exemple, with the n95 you can run stuff like quake 3 at a good frame rate, and it has 3d acceleration to boot.
Does the c6-00 have the innards to pull off something like that?
(for the record, the c6-00 is the one with the physical keyboard and the resistive screen. c6-01 has no physical keyboard and a capacitive screen).
Keep in mind, I know that the c6-00 sucks compared to android phones and friends, and that's not what I want to know. What I want to know is: Is the c6-00 better than the nokia n95?
Can't do it. Since the N95, no Nokia has had a dedicated GPU until the N8. The C6-00 doesn't have one. It's also stuck permanently at Symbian^1 which is a slightly cleaned up S60v5, but still horrible. Only Symbian^3 phones are getting any updates.
$125 isn't bad for just having a phone to make calls and send texts, but you'd want the C6-01 if you plan on anything halfway decent on the software front.
The C6-00 is a slight step up from the 5230, but essentially the same phone as far as hardware goes. I've had both the 5230 and the N95 8GB. I still keep the N95 8GB around for games like One and Mile High Pinball, built in SIP stack and the good camera. I don't have the 5230 anymore, there was absolutely nothing interesting I could do with it.
In my opinion, there are only a few worthwhile upgrades from the N95. The N900 has better software by a long shot and the same camera (roughly). The N8 has better app selection, significantly improved camera and Xenon flash, with no real drawbacks as far as hardware goes. Anything else... it depends, something like the C6-01, E6, C7 etc might be interesting for the EDoF camera if you want a dead easy P&S and don't need macro capabilities.
The word 'Pentaband' means '5 Bands', from the Greek word 'pente' meaning '5'. For a phone to be pentaband it has to support 5 bands. If the phone has AWS support, it doesn't automatically mean that it is pentaband.
