Hi, everyone. Been doing some research on how I should go about unlocking an old 3G locked to Rogers. I've fulfilled my contract with them already and upgraded to iphone 4 Nov. 2010. Saying that I'm willing to pay the $50 fee that Rogers charges to unlock but I'm not sure what needs to be done just prior since my 3G is jailbroken on 3.1.3. I don't really want to upgrade the OS as I'm content with 3.1.3. Based on some of the articles I've read, is it safe to assume that restoring via iTunes, calling Rogers to unlock and then restoring the content back is all I need to do? If I decided to re-jailbreak it again, I can simply do that right after Rogers unlocks me?
There is no need to restore the phone before calling to have it unlocked unless you cannot obtain the IMEI otherwise. If you have the original box, the IMEI is on the back of the box. Restoring through iTunes will add the latest compatible iOS software version. The jailbreaking crew may no longer offer compatible products for the iPhone 3G.
