when ordering the byod sim it will ask you if you have an AT&T or Tmobile Compatible phone
unlocking means that you can use the phone on any gsm network.

I am sick of T mobile and have cancelled my plan with them but seeing as my phone isn't very old i would like to keep it and use it with Straight Talk. So I am wondering what i need to do to switch over I know i will need to buy a sim card from Straight Talk but how do i know if it will be compatible with my phone? And I have seen things about having to unlock your phone what exactly does that do? And how do i go about doing this?
Thanks in advance for any and all help!!

OK thank you. Will it work without having to unlock the phone? Or will i have to unlock it?
no need to unlock the phone if useing the t mobile sim
Well, what exactly about t-mobile are you sick of?
If it's the service, then it doesn't make much sense switching to Straight Talk and using their t-mo sim since it will be the exact same service minus the roaming. It also doesn't make much sense switching to Straight Talk and using the AT&T sim if you have a t-mo device unless you're happy with edge data speeds.
I just got tired of my bill always being sky high when I would try and lower it I didnt mind their service I had great service it was their customer service that drove me crazy
You are jumping from the frying pan into the fire if reports in this forum are true.

ST - Tmo sim will give you same service area as the Tmobile service +plus the advantage to roaming on ATT on their 2G newtork if you have no native TMO coverage.
Sign up pre-authorized CC so that your monthly recharge is on time i dont think you will ever need to talk to ST customer service.
Just make sure to follow the 100mb per day and 2 GB a month unwritten stipulation that ST has.
Best of Luck
