Just got mine today. My first true smartphone (android) and I have to get used to it and figure it out.

On a different tangent, someone posted here in another thread that a Walmart associate told him ST was coming out with a Galaxy S phone in July that would sell for around $300. The Electronics lead that sold me the Proclaim at Wally said they are going to be getting the ST sims in a few months, probably byod type. She also told me another interesting tidbit of info... wait for it... ST is releasing an iphone by Christmas. Sounds like they mean business.

Here is my review (the $100 - Ascend II vs. the $180 Samsung Galaxy).

The Samsung has a 1GHZ CPU, it's plenty fast, I see no lag in the browsing. Depends what people use the phone for. The cheapest Android (Ascend II) has a 600MHZ CPU and it did lag a bit more in the browser. 1GHZ is fine though for most, unless they are doing something really intense. Extra cores just runs the battery down faster. The main difference to the BYOB's are the 4" screens + faster 4g service. The only reason I may want to try a different phone is for the bigger 4" screen and maybe a higher res. Wireless internet usage on my phone (especially not near a WAP), is probably less than 1/2 of 1% of my Internet usage, for some it is much more.

However, I did not see any new or even cleanly refurb'd deals that were any better than the new Proclaim (which we get 30 day return window as well). So for someone like me, I don't see a lot of benefit of BYOD at the moment, not cost-wise anyhow.

The Galaxy S Showcase phone that is rumored to drop in July will have a 4" screen, but will run on Verizon's 3G networrk.

if AT&T works where you live then AT&T Boyd sim will probably be your best bet that is you get the coverage. You will get hspa+ speeds (4g) with att sim if they have hspa+ in your area.

If not except 3G speeds with the proclaim.
Yah....at this point a lack of 4g speeds is not a issue so long as I have a data connection that works. So many times my ST/TM data is on E or gone. I have purchased a VM MiFi device for trips and even now times when I am out that my data just isn't there. It's sad that I have a nice phone and my data is so undependable.
I don't have these issues on my ST/ATT phone, just the ST/TM phone and these issues were present back when I was on TM. before my switch to the ST/TM sim. For some stupid reason I thought it would get better. Live and learn I guess.
I'm perfectly happy with my ST/ATT 3G speeds and if I had that speed and dependability from my ST/TM phone I would have no problems.
Looks like I will be reactivating a VM phone after this months ST service is out. 55.00 right now is cheaper than 200+ for a new phone and a 45.00 dollar card. And the VM service works well in my area.

Can anyone comment on the Proclaim's ability to game?

Enjoying the hell out of the awesome 3D games on my Atrix with it's Tegra GPU

How does the Proclaim play standard 3D games?

    Data Cap?

I know this phone has only been out a few weeks and there have been no other Verizon Androids release to compare to the BYOD. But has anyone been able to see any type of data restrictions as compared to the BYOD devices? Will they cap at 2 GB per month or will it be around 4 GB like I've read on other pages?

    (lol)

I decided to do just that... I'll be reviewing the Proclaim shortly. Figured since Walmart offers a 30 (or is it 45?) day trial/return policy on their ST phones, what do I have to lose... right!!!?

(Does anyone know what the actual return policy is for Walmart's ST Phones... I've heard 30 days, then read somewhere it may be as much as 45 days???)
