I've been using Nokia Maps for a while but I have switched phones and I am now searching for an alternative in the Android world.
I don't have a data plan so the requirements are:
1. Total Offline navigation in Canada
2. Lane assistance support
3. I preffer Navteq maps since so far have been very accurate (the same ones Garmin uses).
So far I found Navigon (now owned by Garmin) who seemed to be the ideal candidate, but Lane assistance doesn't work in Canada so it is out.
So what GPS app are you using for Canada and how good is it?
I am not using an app. I imported a T-mobile Garminfone. It's a 2.1 Eclair version running a full Garmin offline mapset; yes, lane assist is fully working.
I am on Rogers, and the best I can get is EDGE (no 3G for me), but I do not have a data plan anyway, and EDGE is fine for voice calls.
Garmin is really good, used their Garmin Mobile XT on Nokia N95 with Symbian. But right now the Garmin app only comes with online maps so it is out of the picture. And in Canada, Navteq maps are the best compared with Teleatlas (TomTom).
As an example , 2 days ago I drove from Halifax NS to London ON. I used Nokia Maps (Navteq) and Sygic Maps (official TomTom app). In Quebec city Navteq wanted to take me on the TransCanada highway but Sygic was pointing me on Autorute 40 between Quebec and Montreal which is longer and slower. It is not just my imagination but nothing beats Navteq maps in routing and accuracy, at least in Canada.
